He asks: Is the Public Ahead of the Netroots on Iraq?
And if we are not careful, we will become just another calculating interest group to be placated with occasional red meat rhetoric, beholden to the soulless rhythms of the DC media machine as we delude ourselves into believing we are principled and somehow different from all the outsiders-turned-insiders who have come before us.
Simple answers to complicated questions: Hell yes.
The impetus for the burst of shrillness is this AP article about Dems backing away from Murtha’s plan. Also there’s this about how polls show support for Murtha’s plan, but the Corporate Media omits those polls from pieces on the subject.

nice comment you left over there, shy
matt has earned his spurs, as far as i’m concerned, and may enter the ranks of the righteous. however, i still think everyone’s missing the *real* reason why this war won’t end, and will likely be expanded into iran.
money. money. money.
digby is fairly shrill too, and calls this whole mess kabuki. and so it is. “look over here, a nonbinding resolution, senate rules negotiations, more dem senators on the sunday TV shows…things have changed!” meanwhile, how many american soldiers and iraqis will die today?
just enough to keep the gravy train flowing.
who’s really in charge of this mess? these guys. they’ve been the ones to enjoy billions of your taxdollars monthly, with no oversight and accounting. they can buy off a few critically placed pols, “public intellectuals,” policy makers, and party higher up for peanuts, compared to what they get to keep.
when matt and the rest of the netroots want to talk about what really matters to our leaders, i’ll be impressed. matt is half way there, but i suspect that there will be as much foot dragging in the netroots as the obvious becomes increasingly undeniable as there is in the senate on the war.

soulless rhythms of the DC media machine…
C’mon everybody—give it up, give it up
C’mon everybody—shake it up, shake it up
Shake it up, give it up…for the…
Soulless rhythms of the DC media machine!
Beat, beat—miss a beat
Beat, beat—really sweet
Sweet meat, no defeat
Got a lotta money to be made
Grin, grin—do it again
Grin, grin—where you been?
See you at the party, darling
Got a lotta money to be made
(chorus)
Soulless…soulless
Is that a lobbyist in your pocket
or are you just happy to see me?
Be me? Freak freely…
Freak freely on the dance floor
Freak freely, freak some more
What good are hands that are squeaky clean?
Just gimme those soulless rhythms of the DC media machine!
