See if you can correctly guess the missing phrase in this quote from McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace:
"The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, [fill-in-the-blank], cheated is outrageous," Ms. Wallace said.
Which is the missing phrase:
a) a member of the Keating Five
b) the man who single-handedly legalized torture after pretending to stand up against it
c) a man who feigned outrage about his friend John Kerry's "botched joke"
d) a former prisoner of war
e) a man who cheated on his wife
Turns out the answer is "d)":
"The insinuation from the Obama campaign that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, cheated is outrageous," Ms. Wallace said.
Since Rick Warren falsely claimed that "we have safely placed Senator McCain in a cone of silence," can we say that he cheated? Well, no, he's a man of the cloth.
(Obama, of course, is the symbol of all hope and change, and is the chosen heir to the legacies of Martin Luther King, Jr. and JFK, so he can't ever be criticized, either.)
In lieu of criticizing any of them, I'm going to go buy me some DuPont stock, since Teflon sales seem to be going through the roof.

Heh
If it didn't mean the future of this country and the suffering of millions of people, the entire election would be funny. It's a weird mixture of schadenfreude and farce.
As BTD points out, McCain is merely invoking the standard Obama help set when his spokesman rebuked Wes Clark's comments. You cannot say anything bad about McCain's service and since McCain is all about his service, you can't say anything bad about McCain.

They Picked This Forum
Now they're whining because it favored McCain? Well, duh. If you want a forum that favors Obama, try having one on the economy.
Obama is never going to distinguish himself from McCain or the GOP by engaging in these right-wing panderfests. It's basically all about who is the better Republican. And while I grant you that's a close question this year, especially after the FISA vote, Obama is ultimately going to lose that battle. People don't want a better Republican. They're sick of Republicans. They want an alternative. And instead of insisting on having an economic forum (it's the economy, stupid!),* they went with this.
* Obama could've insisted on any kind of forum he wanted. McCain needs the media coverage and was going to be at a disadvantage in selecting the time and place of their first meeting. So naturally Obama chooses one that's aimed at voters he can't win and will help McCain solidify his base. McCain ain't Alan Keyes. Obama isn't going to win everybody's vote against him. Jeesh.

yup-they're distracting bec Obama was so lousy,
and apparently even that one "forum" was "above his pay grade".
it was pathetic--he was even more wordy and less substantive than Kerry used to be--by far.
The McCain Rule --- love it!
Anyone who criticizes McCain is unpatriotic.
Why, ANY insinuation that John McCain, A FORMER POW, is a pro-torture, warmongering, anti-freedom, wifecheating anti-poor, fake environmentalist is simply outrageous.
McCain is brilliant, having learned from the master and His Rule: Anyone who criticizes Obama is racist.
Payback is hell.
and the GOP plays that game better than all Dems anyway
--it's impossible to feel bad for Obama getting hit by the same shit and games he plays.
Not sure which is worse...
the bogus 'cheating' allegation or the exploitation of McCain's POW status.
Bust I'd have to go with the 'cheating' allegation from the Obama campaign. At least the McCain campaign's cheap shot is attributable. The Obama campaign did their usual "privately saying" crap to Andrea Mitchell and other reporters, knowing they would the 'cheating' allegation out there.
So while McCain's "POW" stuff is a cheap shot, its nowhere near as cheap as what the Obama campaign tried to do. Team McCain obviously studied up on Team Obama's methods during the primary, and is ready to counter them effective --- first with Obama's use of the race card, and now with this attempted "unattributable" smear.
Ultimately, the whole idea that McCain needed to cheat is absurd on its face. McCain spent a year campaigning in front of this kind of crowd, and knew what he would say to most of the questions because he's already been asked them numerous times.
