LIMA (AFP) - Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area, regional authorities said Monday.Around midday Saturday, villagers were startled by an explosion and a fireball that many were convinced was an airplane crashing near their remote village, located in the high Andes department of Puno in the Desaguadero region, near the border with Bolivia.
Residents complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a “strange odor,” local health department official Jorge Lopez told Peruvian radio RPP.
Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized, Lopez said.
Rescue teams and experts were dispatched to the scene, where the meteorite left a 100-foot-wide (30-meter-wide) and 20-foot-deep (six-meter-deep) crater, said local official Marco Limache.
“Boiling water started coming out of the crater and particles of rock and cinders were found nearby. Residents are very concerned,” he said.
Hey, didn’t the Blob have a similar birth? I’ll let you know when it’s time to Head for the Hills.

Was Blackwater in the area?
Practice range anxiety, no doubt.

Damn, what did it hit?
Bolide impact?
Those things come in smokin’ hot. If it was big enough to leave that size crater, how would it compare to the Tunguska event?
Strange odors and illness…biological weapon?
Meteor
Maybe it was a nuclear powered satellite. Plutonium anyone?
Maybe it’s just a story. Stay tuned.
Anybody know what the geophysical characteristics
that is to say, the soil components / rock strata in the impact zone are?
Lookit this
Here is a picture and video of the alledged hole, and the soil, and a lot of the water- bubbling, no less.
Also there seems to be a white ash the locals are picking up and smelling. The ash does not look like a sulfide, it almost looks more like an ammonium salt or some metallic oxide (magnesium oxide?).

Peruvian Meteorite
One of the big, off the books, money makers for freight transport pilots looking for some quickie cash is dumping liquid hazardous waste over the ocean. These guys just missed their drop zone. Think in terms of airliners emptying their toilets at 37,000 feet: E.g., the movie “Joe Dirt.”
thanks so much, john. that's the most
reasonable explaination i’ve heard yet. “meteorite” is a great way to get people to forget all about “environmental destruction by racist, corrupt corporate and economic actors avoiding law and responsibility.”
this should be simple to find out: aren’t there websites put up by astrophysicists and sky-watching types, that’ll have video or computer records of what came out of the sky on particular dates/times? someone who knows this stuff better than me should check out the records. dammit, i wish i had time to do it myself.
There are, CD, but what I found yesterday was
the ones you don’t have to register to use haven’t been updated in awhile. Anybody else know anything about this? Is fracking NOAA’s space junk site classified now because of some cockamamie “terra” plot to drop defunct satellites on Bush?
This is a very reasonable explanation
…john, for what I’m seeing on that video.
Think about dropping large metal cannisters from 35,000 feet of mixed hydrocarbon/ aqueous solvent waste, possibly ignited on the way down or on impact.
Virtually everything from NOAA is heavily filtered these days. They are far more scared of what those satellites show here of the environment on earth than of what will drop on their Dear Leader, who is a figurehead anyway.
