Moronic Dems Utterly Fail the Media/Rhetoric Game, Again

chicago dyke's picture

I'm really tempted to make a Chinatown joke here ("My mother! My sister!") but the situation is funny enough as it is. Will he or won't he? I guess no one is sure. Now that's Leadership! Reid denies, says the AP lies!

I almost feel sorry for Burris. AFAIC, he's not really that bad, and Blogo hasn't been convicted of anything yet. Seems to me the rather lazy IL lege needs to come back from vacation and do their jobs. Clearly, making this a national issue has only made the Dem party as a whole look even more stupid and clueless.

That's pretty sad.

I'm thinking it's just like Panetta v. DiFi. A lot of jockeying over "We don't want nobody nobody sent," and no thought at all for the right thing, not even the appearance of the right thing, let alone little details like the rule of law, say.

First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win. -- Mahatma Gandhi

it's not like DiFi at all --

Reid has to seat Burris and he knows it.

Obama can only hire Panetta w/DiFi & Rockefeller's oks and approvals -- important members of your own party are supposed to be consulted on picks that affect their Committees. And it doesn't matter if those important Senators suck or not or are tainted or not -- he needs them.

it's like atrios pointed out, LB

just to your point. gosh, we wouldn't want to seem organized and unified on this issue, and avoid giving rethugs talking point juice re: franken and other contested seats in the future? no, that would be sensible outside the Village, and thus must be avoided at all costs.

Me, too! LOL!

Re: CD's comments: that and then some.

The Hamsher "poker with Harry" post at FDL makes it clear how close this came to undoing Franken and benefitting Norm Coleman and the Rethugs.

Memo to Reid: You're NOT THAT GOOD. Please stop playing poker with our new and improved Senate on the table.

Thanx, kbye.

at Dissenting Justice has been all over this issue for weeks, and is rightly blaming the Dems, not just for handling the media "game" badly, but for being legally and morally wrong on this issue. Go read. http://dissentingjustice.blogspot.com/

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.

Random term

The Village is the few thousand people inside the Beltway who control the political life of the country; they are responsible for managing the Overton Window, for example. They are thoroughly bi-partisan. They all know each other, and they all fuck each other (both senses). The term "Village" (my term was Versailles on the Potomac) captures their provincialism, their pettiness, and how small (all senses) they really are. I believe Village is also the name of a horror movie that Digby had in mind.
