My Wal-Mart Saga, Episode II

Part I here.

My wife got a call from Wal-Mart today. The woman she talked to had yet another completely erroneous account of what my bad experience with the store was.

Something about being charged twice for an item and calling the company president. Wasn’t me.

Anyway, irony once again proving itself fully alive and kicking, I called them back and… guess what… was stranded on hold for ten minutes until I hung up, listening all the while to strange, old-school countrified Muzak that was badly tuned in and staticky. Like a David Lynch acid trip to the tune of Brenda Lee’s evil twin.

What was my original problem that they’re supposedly attempting to salve? They kept me waiting at their Site to Store desk 45 minutes without anyone responding to repeated pages to come to the desk to authorize my leaving with an item that I’d already paid for online.

Thanks, Wal-Mart, for another excellent expenditure of my time!

I can only figure that they’ve literally found a way to convert time into money… and they pass the savings on to you!

I’ll try them again tomorrow, if I have some time to spend on a business that’s completely uncontaminated by service.

WMart

WalMart is a textbook example of a corporate bullying the locals out of business. Part of their ability to lower prices is their ability to lower their employees’ wages and benefits.
Unfortunately, they are the store of choice for many because of their low prices, regardless of the reason.
I know of so many people who won’t shop at WalMart because this, or because of the people they see there ( way too white trash). Um.

Except for that once or twice.

It seems to me that not-shopping-at-WalMart is like buying organic-only food. Nice if you can afford that kind of moral superiority.
WalMart really does suck in the way it treats its employees. It sucks that they (and, whoa! everywhere else, come to think of it) carry all kinds of cheap crap made in China or other countries by people who treat their employees even worse.
They also carry plenty of products at a lower price…
We’ve got a bad economic situation, a whole lot or outsourced industry, a whole lot of people paying more than they realize for cheap products.
Oops, too bad. Some people aren’t affected by this- and it is not you.

you already got beat up for it at part 1, vl

so i won’t bother. except to say that i too am one who would rather have a tooth pulled than go into a satanmart. i’m from union country, and they define evil as far as i’m concerned.

The Goddess is speaking to you, VL

about the consequences of trading at WalMart.

Best listen up, before She gets really pissy. :-)

Wal-Mart chased away locals here

and the survivors, in an attempt to “compete,” are out-cheapifying products, amputating service, and “upscaling” poverty as fast as they can.

Are BestBuy or Circuit City unionized?

Those are the only local (such as they are) options for what I was buying.

I recall that the French...

… have worked out a concept for housekeeping for three. Now what do they call that…?

Menage a trois!!

Of course! :-)

Meijer...Union

Nuff said.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

unfortunately, Aeryl, Father Meijer was also a fascist

I grew up in the county with Store #1. i heard lots and lots of stories about the Meijer family, where they spend their money (winger causes), their unscrupulous business practices, etc. they were pulling wal-mart tricks like driving the mom and pop stores out of biz, long before sam and his kids got with the program. yes, they are unionized. but other than that, i’m sorry to say they are hardly any better in terms of (not) buying american or helping the poor or any of that librul shit.

i will say this: their organic line of Meijer products is pretty good. i hope most of it is truly “organic.” it’s very cheap, and right about now i really appreciate that option.

The closest Meijer is in Ohio, I'm in MA

Nuff said. :v)

Knew that

Used to work at the one near me.

But, if you have the choice between WalMart or Meijer, and are in the need of their cheap prices, I choose Meijer every time.

It’s all about choosing the lesser of two evils.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

agreed, Aeryl.

which department did you work in? my sister worked ’gifts and lamps’ at store #1. she actually really liked working there.

I was the fastest damn cashier they'd ever seen

:)

Always with a smile, too.

It, like Wally World, can fall flat in the customer service dept, but honestly that can happen anywhere.

My current job is in a high end retail and wholesale. The salaried salespeople make good money, yet they can still be angry and rude to customers, will ignore phone calls and pages.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

I don't think either are unionized....

but at least Best Buy didn’t fire their most experienced employees because they made too much money, and then get all surprised because customer service tanked and they lost a boatload of money.
