"New Democrat" Artur Davis goes on the record about his FISA betrayal

Via Digby , in the Tuscaloosa News:

“[DAVIS] Sometimes in the process you’ve got to make hard choices in real time.”

“The most important thing we had before us last week was closing that glaring loophole that everybody in the world who would do us harm knew about,” he said.

Er, no, it wasn’t. The most important thing?

Going on vacation. Please don’t tell me that it’s more important to get back to the district than to gut FISA, eviscerate the Fourth Amendment, and destroy our identity as a free people. Get the fucking session extended and uphold your oath of office!

Here’s Artur’s pitiful little rationalization:

“Besides, this legislation is good for only six months, when we will come back and revisit the issue,” he said. “I am hopeful we can get some more [What do you mean, “more”? There isn’t any!] oversight back into the FISA law then.”

Artur, you tool, did you read the law? It’s not six months. It’s a year.

And get more oversight back in? Are you shitting me? Do you think Bush won’t veto that? Are you stupid? WTF?

NYT quote from the same Digby piece

“The private excuse was that the liberal base wouldn’t be satisfied no matter what they did, and that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid couldn’t make the more conservative Senate go along anyway.”

Nice to hear that the people who gave us this monstrosity wrote us off as DFHs who won’t listen to reason. So, what’s their excuse?

Actually, the good news is...

… that we’re getting their attention, because “no matter what” means they’re feeling something.

So, we have to inflict more pain on them.

We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan
