UPDATE: Gosh, why won't CNN cover this story?

US politicians seek answers as FBI opens hacking investigation

WASHINGTON: The FBI has opened an investigation into claims that News International's now-closed London Sunday tabloid News of the World hacked phones of September 11 victims and their families.

Confirmation of the FBI's involvement coincided with a growing number of US politicians adding their voice to concerns that the unethical practices exposed in Britain might have been employed by News Corporation titles across the Atlantic.

As much as the Kleptocracy would like to stop this investigation, they can't; it has taken on a life of its own.

I think News Corp's implosion is like the fall of the Romanovs, it shows that the thing can be done.

They don't call it the fourth estate for nothing. And the owners of news conglomerates have instituted a rule by fear that teaches politicians that they must be appeased or the politician will be destroyed. Murdoch has merely been the most ruthless in this regard. Once one of them go down, people, even politicians, will lose their fear. One of the qualities of rule by fear is that once the fear is gone, you are a gonner. We saw that in Eastern Europe, in Russia, in Egypt, anywhere where popular movements have taken down dictators. Murdoch's fall is much like that and will have a similar effect.

Once people understand that you can win a war with the press everything will be different. Believe me, Jeffrey Immelt is watching this with considerable interest because he is probably next.

Murdoch still has total control of over 50 separate propaganda organizations in the US alone. Fox "news," The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post are just a few of his outlets.

Someone has assembled a complete list of all of known Murdoch controlled organizations. It would make a maggot puke to see all he controls.

Will anything be done?

No, Holder and the rest of the Democratic/Republican gang are still trying to overturn DADT as a priority and stop the decriminalization of marijuana.

Americans by birth, international war criminals and thieves by inclination.

When this story first surfaced, my reaction was much like vastleft's and regulararmyfool's - I figured it would quickly be ignored by the people who matter. Unfortunately for them *, the issue of RupertCorp hacking into 9/11 victims' private communications may be one of those "missing white woman" issues that won't go away.

So, I guess I'll just sit back and watch how it all plays out, because it's clearly going to go on at a level where analysis can provide no answers.

* By "them", I mean the people who matter.
