A nice little amendment to H.R. 1585 by Senators Kyl and Lieberman regarding Iran:
Not only is the language familiar, the implications are downright frightening.
The amendment adds Section 1535: SENSE OF SENATE ON IRAN. Most important are the following subsections to 1535(b):
(3) that it should be the policy of the United States to combat, contain, and roll back the violent activities and destabilizing influence inside Iraq of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its foreign facilitators such as Lebanese Hezbollah, and its indigenous Iraqi proxies;
(4) to support the prudent and calibrated use of all instruments of United States national power in Iraq, including diplomatic, economic, intelligence, and military instruments, in support of the policy described in paragraph (3) with respect to the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies;
(5) that the United States should designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a foreign terrorist organization…
With the 2002 Iraq War Authorization and Bush’s ever-expanding notion of presidential authority, this amendment just might be seen as enough for him to attack Iran without any further approval by the Congress.
To the Senate: invoke cloture - make them get 60 votes.

No Vote On This One Yet, Woody
Woody - you may be thinking of the vote regarding sanctions against Iran.
The language I quoted has been given a Senate Amendment number that is finally discoverable online: S. Amdt. 3017.
It can be tracked here.
The Bill of Rights is a born rebel. It reeks with sedition. In every clause it shakes its fist in the face of constituted authority… . it is the one guaranty of human freedom to the American people. - Frank Irving Cobb
I'll stand by the predicted vote...

Everything's going to be fine
Just because the words “military instruments”MR SUBLIMINAL 8-inch, cut are in the bill doesn’t mean Bush will actually use the power. That would be a little far-fetched.
We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan
