Obama's magical unity pony rhetoric not vacuous?

Bareback Andy travels all the way to the UK to find out.

Apparently, Obama’s a “left libertarian.” A Kos/Sullivan mind meld? That would be bad.

NOTE Here’s the Guardian article. Frankly, at this point, I find the oratory such a turn off that I wouldn’t believe a position paper from the OFB if it were written in the air before me in letters of fire, so at this point I’m totally counter-suggestible.

Readers, can anyone summarize what Koffler is saying? I recall that Obama butchered his initial health care mandate proposal, Krugman called bullshit, and Obama corrected the proposal. Beyond that, I’m unclear on the detail, and I’m not sure that Foffler is current on what the mandate is. I recall that Obama’s advisors seem to some a little iffy. No DU copying and pasting, please!

It's a big wet kiss to Obama

Koffler’s profile says he graduated from Yale in 2006, where he earned a BA in philosophy. I don’t think he fully comprehends what Obama’s positions are and does more to make the case of why it’s not a good idea to support Obama.

establishment welfare at its finest!

i just love reading about all these little 20somethings from ’elite’ schools getting jobs at important papers, and being given huge microphones from which to blather their ignorance and inexperience. aren’t you glad this guy, and not lambert, gets to write about obama for millions?

ut oh.

John Cole is an Obama Derangement Syndromer!

(post title: “I Can Has Unity Pony?”)

Another meme, propagated!

Snowclones almost write themselves.

I’m gonna get a pony and I’m gonna name it Fierce Urgency of Now!

And later on, Uncle David Broder’s going to come around and sniff my pony’s saddle LOL!!

I’m s-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o happy!!

I love my pony!

The tenets of libertarianism

Can be summed up thusly (imagine them being read by a 3-year old):

1. “Mine!”

2. “You can’t make me!”

Koffler, who has also written for Libertarian outlet “Reason” also links to George Will’s approving portrait of Obama’s economic adviser, Austan Goolsbee (U of Chicago).

Sounds like the new Chicago boys are about a new, fun (game theory!), version of Milton Friedman.

In the Libertarian world view, everyone has a high-paying high-tech job, so there is no need for the “welfare-state” (i.e. taxes and laws). Let the weed and guns and gay sex flow freely throughout the land! The Invisible Hand will take care of anything bad or unpleasant without rudely “coercing” anyone to do anything.
