Nope

Matt Stoller writes:

Not one Democratic candidate for Congress or current member of Congress - save Russ Feingold - would lay the blame for the FISA debacle where it belongs, not just with Bush but also with the House Democratic leadership. Powell would, and did, and did it in movement terms, bringing this debate back to the Democratic capitulation to the right starting with Reagan.

Nope. Last I checked, the United States had a bicameral legislature at the Federal level, and in the upper chamber, called the Senate -- that is, not the lower chamber, the "House" of Representives -- the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, and hence the putative leader of the party, one Barack Obama by name, cast his vote in favor of the "debacle."

And it was the Senate's Harry Reid and and the House's Nancy Pelosi together who, last August, set the FISA Clusterfuck in motion by passing the initial abomination, in the dead of night, before leaving on vacation. And the beauty part was that Reid actually managed to pass a Republican bill.

It's the entire Democrat Party leadership, including Barack Obama, that's responsible for the FISA "debacle," and the reason they voted to destroy the Fourth Amendment and Constitutional government is that they want to.

good catch

Also, Ed Towns voted AGAINST the FISA abuse. Stoller might have mentioned that.

Both Powell and Towns support HR 676, but Towns is on the critical Health Subcommittee, no telling whether could get that committee assignment.

You're problem

Is that you treat Stoller seriously. Scatteresd between his crap is a worthwhile post, but its lost among his absurd hypocritical posts.

Only tyrants rig elections.

Congress Approval - 14%

Via Shakesville, from Gallup:

Congress' job approval rating has dropped five percentage points over the past month, from 19% in June to 14% in July, making the current reading the lowest congressional job approval rating in the 34-year Gallup Poll history of asking the question. The previous low was 18%, last reached in May.

Those Congressional Democrats just keep finding ways to top themselves. Why settle for setting a record for low approval at 18% when 14% is in your grasp. It's a good thing for the Democrats that they are operating in a two party system because it's pretty clear that if they win big in November it will primarily be because they are the only option other than Republican.

This might, however, explain why they keep bowing to Bush, he's more popular than they are. How anyone can have lower ratings than Bush and not kill themselves is beyond me. But then the Democratic leadership has no shame, that's part of why they're so unpopular.

This should worry them:

The 75% currently disapproving of Congress is just shy of the record-high 78% in March 1992.

Hmmm, 1992? Didn't something happen in the next election cycle after that to the Democrats in Congress? If I recall correctly, it wasn't good. Although at this point, I can't say I'd be all that upset to see Nancy Pelosi go the way of Tom Foley.

Thanks BDBlue for reminding me. Obama leads by 3%. Oy.

They can say whatever they want to make this look pretty but Obama's polling numbers are plain out ugly.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
