Now that Hillary has won Ohio, will Obama quit the race?

lambert's picture

MSNBC calls Ohio for Hillary.

Hey, just asking.

Because that question is, really, about as ridiculous as the question that the Village and the Boys on the Blogs kept asking: Whether Hillary would quit. These guys kept acting like Obama was inside the 10 when he was really at midfield.

UPDATE The crowd at Hillary's Ohio victory speech chanting "Yes we will!" Oh, snap!

Lambert, do the math

Even if Hillary manages to win Texas by, say 5%, and Pennsylvania by 20%, she'll still be an egomaniacal zombie. And a "tone deaf, angry, sarcastic, brow-beating divider." And an evil corporate slave whom anyone who loves America must stop.

And, worst of all, no matter how many delegates she wins, she'll still be a chick.

One can only hope!

Ohio was a great win for Hillary! She is winning all the states Democrats need in order to take the November election. Obama, on the other hand, has won states that will never support a Democrat in a general election.

Go Hillary!!! BAC

Kind of Amazing

Regardless of any future outcome, it is kind of amazing that the first woman to ever win a primary has now won California, NY, NJ, MA, MI, FL, and now Ohio.

Sometimes I think it's important in the midst of the misogyny and to step back and remember that she's the first woman to ever win a primary and the first to win a caucus. Not only that, she's one the biggest primaries (except, of course, Illinois and possibly Texas depending on the next few hours). That's really an incredible accomplishment.

Of course, while that's something to be celebrated, I'm quite certain it won't even be acknowledged by some parts of the so-called Left.

And boy she is one tough cookie isn't she. The longer this campaign goes on the more I genuinely like her. She started out as a compromise candidate for me and while I'm well aware of her shortcomings, I can't help but be impressed by her, even when I haven't been impressed by her campaign.

Love your post title.

I was already planning on going around to all the Obamabot blogs tomorrow and ask them when Obama was going to drop out. Looks like you beat me to the punch. Smile

This was an impressive night for Clinton. Yes, indeed, she is definitely a fighter!

Just keep this in mind....

check out Progressive Punch and reiveiwing both candidates 'Chips are Down' Ratings:

Obama: 76.87 ranked 41st

Clinton: 86.90 ranked 27th

The following Senators ranked ahead of Obama:

Webb, Salazar, Feinstein, and, yes, Nelson.

Dang....in addition to her being the first woman to win any and then major primaries in states the Dem nominee must win she's....

.....much more progressive than Mr. 'Hopey'. Now we understand what the 'hope in Obama's campaign was for...'

That the voters would not catch on in time to his scam.

That hope is now dashed and Senator 'SnakeOil' needs to step up and fight instead of run his yapper.

Somehow I think The Hill has the advantage there.

...even if she is a girl.

An Obama supporter’s rationale

Today’s contribution in the ongoing women’s conversation in WaPo about the right and wrong of supporting Obama is from Adele Stan. Read the whole thing for complete context and intertwining with other commentary, but this is the nut of it:

Don't get me wrong; symbols do matter. As a feminist, I've waited a long time to see a woman come this close to winning the presidency. I have hoped against hope to see a good, liberal woman lead this nation before I die. In the voting booth on primary day, I stared at the ballot for a long time before I marked it for Barack Obama. It was a painful mark to make. Painful because Hillary Clinton is an extraordinarily dedicated, intelligent and talented public servant. Painful because at another hour, she would have been just what the doctor ordered for a nation in need of fixing.

But the moment in which policy solutions alone offered a cure has passed. In 2008, fixing is out and healing is in.

I stood in that voting booth and thought of my newest grand-niece, born only weeks before the District of Columbia presidential primary. Who, I thought, could best convince the American people to move forward in the interest of a common good, so that our nation might pass through this perilous time, to thrive once more by the time baby Julianna comes of age? For my grand-niece to enjoy the equality that has evaded women of my generation, the nation will first have to survive. The Constitution will need to be restored. Tasks such as these require the gifts of a brilliant orator more than the skills of a policy genius.

Adele M. Stan is a columnist for the American Prospect Online. She began her journalism career at Ms. magazine.

Fixing is out. Even if fixing were in, policy-based solutions supported by extraordinary dedication, intelligence and talent aren’t enough to survive peril, secure equality and preserve the Constitution. Instead, what’s needed is healing – and all we need to bring us healing is great oration.

Falling for a smooth-talkin’ man; definitely a chick thing.

Me, too

The longer this campaign goes on the more I genuinely like her. She started out as a compromise candidate for me and while I’m well aware of her shortcomings, I can’t help but be impressed by her

Although I'm taken with her on policy, substance, I can't help but agree with finding her personal attributes surprisingly...incredible (Honestly, how does she deal with constantly being under siege?).

Here's the latest reason why I have definitely moved from supporting Clinton by default to actually supporting her (Forgive me, if it's already been posted):

Obama refuses to rule out the likes of Blackwater in Iraq, Afghanistan, proposing they merely need to be brought under the rule of law:

Clinton, meanwhile, co-sponsored legislation to ban Blackwater and other private contractors:

Even Amy Goodman smiled when she read that Clinton had done this.

oh the humanity!

I'm surprised that that place can still amaze me. I would of figured I'd be numb to it by now.

I used to go to Kos everyday. Now I go over there once in while and every time I swear it's the last time. At least until the general.

E-mail carpet bomb

every lame pundit who keeps asking why doesn't Hillary just drop out now for the sake of the party: Mike Lux, Chris Bowers, and Matt Stoller of Open Left; Addie Stan of Tapped; Joan Walsh of Salon; Jonathan Alter; Markos Moulitsas; and others too numerous to name. Ask them when they're going to start asking the question, "Now that Hillary has won Texas, Ohio & Rhode Island, will Obama quit the race for the good of the party?"

Except the Man in the Grey Turtleneck, Lord Eschaton, who has kept his wits about him throughout this tortured primary season.

I stopped going to Kos

I dropped by this morning and regretted having done so. Kos really needs to get his head out of his ass and get a handle on the situation there or see his influence drop.

And it's it great that Pennsylvania voters finally get to make a difference?

Hillary Retakes Lead in Rasmussen Tracking Poll

She's now up 48-43 and that's without any bump from last night. A week ago it was 49-40 Obama.

Now, I don't put a whole lot of stock in these tracking polls, but to the extent they capture anything relevant, it's probably momentum. Not that momentum has been the decider in very many elections this year.

stupid vapid argument

I'm getting really tired of seeing this MI, FL crap.

I get the spin, and while it is technically true, CLinton did win MI & FL, it is also true that her name was the only one on the ballot. So, you look pretty weak if you keep putting this forward as some type of proof of anything. Also, if you are dumb enough to list states won for the first time by a woman, why not list those won for the first time by an African-American? Just lame spin.

BDBlue's picture

Clinton's Name Was Not the Only One on the Ballot

Dennis Kucinich and Chris Dodd were on the ballot in Michigan and maybe others, I'm too lazy to go look. All candidates were on the ballot in Florida.

As for Michigan, the reason Obama's name was not on the ballot was because he decided to pull it off - and talked Edwards and Richardson into pulling it off - to suck up to Iowa and to try to limit the impact Michigan would have in the primary season. Specifically, it appears he did not want a Hillary win in Michigan to screw up any post-Iowa momentum he might have. He tried to get Hillary to do the same, but she refused.

That this tactical decision by Obama might backfire does not render the Michigan vote automatically null and void. Just as there have been states that Obama has won because of tactical mistakes by Clinton. Do we get to do these over, too?

And I am so sick of having to correct these factual inaccuracies that somehow seem to get repeated over and over by Obama supporters on every website (a coincidence, I'm sure). But I will continue to correct them because the record is important -- "A lie told often enough becomes true," Vladimir Lenin.
