MATTHEWS: Let me give you a scene that may face you in the next year or two, where the national security adviser calls you at 3:00 in the morning and tells that you a couple of jet — commercial jets have been hijacked. And they believe it is al Qaeda. And, as we know, al Qaeda always tries a second time. They tried for the World Trade Center after ‘93. They came back in ‘01. They’re heading for the Capitol. What do you do?
OBAMA: Well, look, I am hesitant to engage in hypotheticals like that, because…
MATTHEWS: But it has been predictable.
OBAMA: Oh, well, the — I don’t think anybody predicted 9/11. And, so, we don’t know what kinds of circumstances are going to come up.
I mean, I’m used to the right wing talking points from Obama, but channeling Condi’s weaseling on 9/11 moves beyond the absurd to the surreal.
It’s too fucking disheartening. Am I insane, or did the blogosphere spend some time, back in the day when we actually had a media critique, setting the record straight that not only did plenty of people predict that Bin Laden was going to attack (BRIEFER: “Bin Laden determined to strike in U.S.” BUSH: “You’ve covered your ass, now.”), but that he could do so with airplanes? Like, as far back as 1998? That’s what a quick search brings up, and I’m sure there’s more, even setting aside CT stuff.
I’m not asking Obama to don the foil, and Gawd knows both he and Hillary are centrists, but is it really, really necessary for Obama to repeat the stalest of stale talking points from Bush’s defenders on 9/11?
And is it really, really necessary to give the Bush administration a free pass on 9/11, as Obama just did? How is that going to help us in the general? And how on earth do you walk this back?
Is Obama ignorant? Was he not paying attention? Is he proving he’s Serious
? Is he totally Villager? Did his briefers not cover this aspect of contemporary history? Is this the kind of steaming load the Unity
Pony
is going to keep leaving behind?
If nobody could have predicted 9/11, doesn’t mean that the vast expansion of surveillance power putatively justified by it should remain in place to protect us?
Reach me a bucket, wouldja hon? No, I take it back. Don’t trouble. I don’t have the energy any more. Truly, as The Shrill
One has said, “this is the age of the anti-Cassandra.”

Front page
Some have wondered whether Obama or Clinton would back
any investigations into the BushCo maladministrtion’s multiple malfeasances (MMM)—looks like we have one answer:
Obama? Not too likely. At least into pre-9/11 steps to protect the nation. Channeling Condi, tho’, is pretty damn scary.
Would Clinton look into the MMM?
Well, it was reported Obama said he doesn't read blogs....
Forgot where—
Wasn't 9/11 Bill Clinton's Fault?
Because I’m pretty sure that’s where this entire thing is heading, the ultimate convergence of the Village, Karl Rove, and the OFB
.
Hey
Didn’t Lee Hamilton just endorse Obama? As in “Vice Chairman of the 9/11 Commission” that Lee Hamilton?
Why, yes he did endorse Obama
Wonder if Hamilton’s having second thoughts about it today.
I don't think it's the same Lee Hamilton
There’s Lee “Vice Chairman of the 9/11 Commission” Hamilton, and then there’s Lee “Buyer’s Remorse” Hamilton. But I think Lee Hamilton #1 has Lee Hamilton #2 chained up in a dungeon somewhere, while he waits for the primary season to blow over.

You sure?
Or is just like “the person who has kidnapped Josh Marshall”?
Sounds like we may have an epidemic on our hands…
Unfreaking believable
He wants to be the leader of the free world? He’s gonna need more than a daily briefing if this is his understanding.
This is going to be one helluva “I misspoke” moment! LOL!
Setting us up
for Condi as his VP?
Smoke you're hopium and move on
Nothing to see here.
Has the mandatory WORM emerged yet on this topic?
How long does it usually take for the WORM
to appear?
Chill
There is a difference between “nobody predicted 9/11” and “I don’t think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon, that they would try to use an airplane as a missile.”
And the whole thing was in the midst of one of those weird hypotheticals from Matthews.
Then a Rapper from NYC is Smarter Than Obama AND Condi
In 1992, New York City Rap Group “Eric B. & Rakim” penned a (rather scathing) critique of Desert Storm called “Casualties of War,” which was released on the Album Don’t Sweat the Technique. Even though Rakim mistakenly identifies Saddam as Muslim, the point of the song is made clear in the final verse, which I excerpt here:
C’mon, if a “Rapper” - an musician that many people in the U.S. still don’t take seriously - could “predict” this type of attack, wouldn’t those who are supposed to be paid the dollars…and are often entrusted with the very position and tools to protect this country…be able to do so?

The enemy of my enemy is STILL my enemy. Those who forget this end up being Vulture scraps.
That is a great song, Lost In Space
This is the youtube (unfortunately non-embeddable because owned by a corporation)
There’s also this on the nobody could have predicted front.
Maybe we should institute a US Hip Hop Unpredictable Event Prediction Department.
On another blog
On another blog 9/11 and Iraq are credited to McCain.
I also watched a blogtube that talked about how McCain has courted the media for many years blah blah blah and then he goes on to worry that they might not be as fair to Obama blah blah blah because he is not as chatty as McCain is blah blah…
Why do people have to court the media? Isn’t there job to report not to create the news? I think we need to regulate the media. I’m sick of them. Our freedom flew out the window the moment they (the media) stopped hiring journalism majors from reputable organizations. My proposal will be this: Have an ethics committee review newspapers. If they are unbiased in their reporting then sanctions are imposed and an affiliation is posted on every page of the newspaper top, sides, and bottom.
So let’s suppose Obama did win the election. I suppose we can look forward to his presidency as Hillary’s fault.
I’m still trying to get over this guy buying a ham and cheese sandwich for 100 bucks. If this is how he presents lunch, “oh, I just had a sandwich” (that cost 100 bucks!) then imagine how much debt he will incur on the US. “well they needed our water”, we’ll just have to wait until it rains. “oh well we needed to help out Africa, I’ll just raise taxes more”.
Obama is Marie Antoinette without the wig.
C'mon Jeqal, that's not fair
Even I didn’t say Obama spent $100 on a sandwich!
