(Just sending one out to all the Lutherans (and Episopalians!0 in the house tonight.)
But seriously:
I thought Obama's chief of staff was going to be Tom Daschle? Or is Daschle another loser shoved under the bus?
NOTE Rahm on FISA. Haw.

Chief
Obama would be much better served by Emmanuel than Daschle, if you ask me, but I've always got the feeling that Emmanuel wasn't exactly happy with how the Democratic primaries played out, this year, from some comments he made and MIA status during much of it. He's not exactly a true-believing Obaman. Daschle very much is. But, somehow, I doubt that it'll be either of them.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
Emmanuel has more power in Congress-
he picks all the candidates and controls their funding, election -- and reelection.
He's in a lifetime job, and is far more influential than a job in any given administration.
(he needs to be gone entirely tho--and certainly out of his job now)
Of course, he's a Chicago
He'll get something as a payoff.
He is also an aggressive, arrogant Chicago Tammany Hall guy......fits right in.
As will Jesse Jackson Jr., Harold Ford along with Dashle, Kerry and Powers. Should be interesting watching these guys and particularly Biden trying to articulate and negotiate foreign policy
ppl have said that he wants to move to Senate--
if Durbin goes to the administration, then he'd run and get that seat (but then Schumer has his job with candidates/funding there, and he's not going anywhere soon)
Rahm is a little low on credibility
Mahoney was Rahm's candidate. Obama owes nothing to Rahm. If Durbin moves up then Shakowsky or Jackson would get his seat.
i'm torn-it's better for us for him to be out
of Congress altogether, and it's horrible that he picks the most conservative Dems to run always--and forces out the more liberal ones if they're already running--and he'd be a junior Rove if Obama brought him in the WH also.
Shakowsky or Jackson
I thought that Shakowsky or Jackson gets Obama's empty seat if he becomes president. I'd heard nothing of Durbin possibly going to the administration. I really don't see where he'd fit. It would seem, then, that the only way Rahm gets into the Senate is somehow getting Obama's possibly vacant seat.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
Durbin won't leave the Senate
He wants to be Majority Leader. He won't give up that ambition without a fight. Dick Durbin is the big reason why I don't think Hillary has a chance of being Majority Leader. And Dick has more power as a senator than he would in the administration.
Names I've heard for Obama's seat: Tammy Duckworth, Jan Shakowsky, Jesse Jackson, Jr. The Chicago Defender, major AA newspaper, came out over the weekend and pushed Jackson for the seat. Jesse, Jr. played at being demur, but he managed to send an email blast with the news to just about everyone.
