Oh, good

Obama's going to hold a "fiscal responsibility summit". I'll wait for the transcript, but Cilizza's story makes it look like a thumb in the eye for the progressive caucus.

Anyhow, I've always liked dog food. Who wouldn't?

Hmmm.

Obama said that he has made clear to his advisers that some of the difficult choices--particularly in regards to entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare - should be made on his watch. "We've kicked this can down the road and now we are at the end of the road," he said.

I can't believe Obama is going to touch the third rail negatively without suffering huge blowback. People are fed up with Bush, but they're not exactly gushing about politicians in general. Obama may be a hero to some now, but that can change in an instant. Don't further screw the middle and lower class.

All the good press and cheerleading in the world won't save him if he does.

It's always the economy...

medicare and social security

obama apparently wants to dismantle the medicare advantage program. this would be a good thing, because medicare advantage has been free money transferred from the taxpayers' pockets to the already-bloated for-profit insurance industry.

as for social security, he's long been making noises about raising the cap on payroll taxes. paul krugman says that would be a bad idea, but i'd be ok with that change. obama has also mentioned raising the retirement age and cutting benefits too. ouch. we'll have to hit back on that one.

You don't think he'll touch the

third rail? Remember the 'Overton Window'? Remember, by his own words he said he would bring this up.
