I wear a similar pair

when I have a board meeting to address important issues, particularly profit goals and stockholder happiness. Or when I travel abroad to close a deal.

Your point is?

They don't look bad at all to me

I couldn't wear them, I'd fall down due to clumsiness issues, but they'd add a nice few inches. They also look nice and roomy and no pinched toes.

don't love the buckle or patent leather,

but they're not terrible at all, compared to tons of other styles out there.

3 eye-catching elements is at least one too many tho in one shoe as a rule, i'd say--the color, the shine, the buckle--all yelling "look!".

(i won't be wearing them tho--i'm just the critical gay friend)

: >

I want, I want...

Why? They would go great with at least three of my suits...touch of red always spices things up and the stacked heels are much more comfy than stilettos.

So glad to see a Corrente senior writer now turning to fashion reporting...momentarily takes my mind off the lousy top-of-ticket decision I'm faced with on Tuesday.

Almost spit out my cocoa at this...

"So glad to see a Corrente senior writer now turning to fashion reporting…"

Oh gawd, it's another Sarah Palin thread

All I had to do was Google "sarah palin shoes" and I found the image; about three quarters of the way down.

But if it amuses you, do waste your time!

NOTE Anybody reminded of Bill Clinton's (fake) runway haircut? Edward's hair? Same deal -- the Village has called it for Obama long ago, and so this kind of shit rolls downhill and shows up here. Hooray for our side.

CONCERN TROLL PROPHYLACTIC Yes, Palin has horrible policies.

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi

Oh my...

is this where the "women can be so bitchy" comment comes in?

I think if the shoes had not been seen on Palin's feet the piece would not have been written.

Just my opinion though.

Fredster: the shoes are presented as I saw them, here

and that is, seriously, the only photo or image of them I've ever seen.

open toe with buckle?

Mark Down!

the over all shape and color are ok, but the combination of open toe and buckle

yech!

It's a RED SHOES thread, Lambert. Is that not allowed now?

I thought the shoes looked like torture devices. I could not fathom anybody voluntarily wearing something like that.

Of course, I am not a fashion maven. I just ... couldn't ... figure out the appeal of that pair of shoes.

None of these appeal to me either, lambert.

Why can't the question I asked be the question I meant to ask?

If I misinterpreted, my bad

I shouldn't have assumed that you were playing games....

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi

those are much nicer--

i'd say--and more wearable--more day-to-night-ish.

bug ugly shoes

Now a closed tow red high heel w/ a thickish heel (for better balance) would be very nice, and complement a gray suit. But the ones pictured? Bug ugly.

Why would you make an assumption like that?

More importantly, I still don't have an answer.

Stacked heels more comfy than stilettos is the closest thing I've read to a "why I'd want them" -- and while it tells me that they're not as bad as they could be, it still doesn't explain the appeal of the shoes ...

No answer?

Did you think I was kidding? Certainement pas!

BIO knows fashion, BIO knows kink:

Givenchy Shoes Make Us Swoon

This season Givenchy is all about the peep-toe shape, with bondage like strapping right in front.

Tags from that website: Bondage, Fall 08, Givenchy, Peep Toe, shoes, spread

Whether the full meaning of this fashion message is understood in "Real" America needn't be asked; no question about it. Far more role-playing kink takes place in Red State Small Town than ever happens amongst big city liberals.

So you don't like them

we get it. Let's move on...there are so many other fun fall/winter looks for you to cover: how about high heel buckle boots? They're quite a trend this year for the fashion forward and they're available in a range of price points ...even Sarah Palin was seen wearing them in Maine earlier this month. Oops. Sorry to bring that up. I got carried away. This is not about Palin at all. It's about shoe trends. Love it, love it!

80s booties are back too--

we had 70s revival for so long, and now it's so 80s everywhere (for men too).

I'm betting shirtwaists and shoulder pads are next.

those gladiator sandals this summer were adorable, i thought, but i saw almost nobody wearing them in real life.

In the middle picture...

I vote for the bottom two, although the bow on the upper right is kinda cute too. Just a bit too big. Stacked heels I tried this year for the first time(yes,I'm slow) and they are much more comfortable than the stiletto types. I can see myself staining the suede on the bottom shoes too, in almost no time. I don't have an office job that allows me to enjoy shoes like this. As a telecommuter I'm having a good day when I'm out of my pajamas by noon.

I LOVE these shoes!

Sadly, since I was hit in the knee by a car, I can't wear heels that high anymore. But, If I could -- I'd get myself a pair of these. I think they'd look great with my jeans!

women and shoes--

it's so funny how women always pay attention to other women's shoes (sometimes even more than the rest of their outfits)--and attention to men's shoes too.

what's up with that? shoes communicate more than clothes and other accessories, i've been told a lot, but i don't buy that they're more telling than other things.

My younger daughter

would love these shoes. In fact, she, an Obama supporter, prolly has a pair almost exactly like these.

Kids these days... :)

These comments helped. I am so far from a fashionista

that my ideas about footwear are somewhat, I suppose, bizarre.

Like, I can get behind these:

In fact, I have a pair, for Sunday wear, of that exact model.

And Bringiton ... thanks for the link, I think. I thought custom boots (run about $450-$500 a pair) were expensive. Then I saw those Givenchy shoes.

Not only do my ankles, insteps and toes now hurt in sympathy, the notion that those are sold as affordable has given me a headache....

For similar money to those Givenchy shoes, I think these moccasins might be fun to wear:

and it's about to be basketball season, which means my annual lust for a pair of these will reawaken:

I guess the thing that gets to me is the heels of those red shoes, although ... patent leather and narrow toe-boxes, too, have me scratching my head.

Are shoes like those red ones ever comfortable?

Sarah,

Are shoes like those red ones ever comfortable?

Comfort has nothing to do with it. My grandmother always said, as she was pulling my hair to put it into permanent thingies: "You have to suffer if you want to look beautiful."

Well, there's suffering, and then there's agony. A little pain won't kill ya.

Cool looking cowboy boots!

I agree...great boots

both pairs.

Thanks, Pie.

I love my boots.

de rigeur footwear

at my workplace.

otherwise, this is florida, so this is my preference, except for those few occasions where dressing up is called for, or the three days each year when the weather turns cold.

Toe Sox!!! With the Rainbow Stripes!!! YES!

I have wanted a pair every Christmas since I was in 2nd grade. I've never figured out how you'd get them on after you wash them, though. Maybe this year I'll get a pair, and find out.

I can wear 'em with my newest pair of boots:

bought for hiking, because alas, my ankles need the lace-up bracing now.

mine were a present from my

mine were a present from my brother when we were kids, bright red with tiny stripes [stripes? i think they were actual stripe, multi-colors anyways] only on the toes and the band at the top of the socks [i wore them till they had sizeable holes in them. still have them tucked away somewhere, i think].

my ankles have always needed that kind of help in hiking boots, but since most of my "hiking" these days is taking the dog for walks, i can get away with running shoes.

Like the hiking boots, Sarah

I've been looking for something like these boots. I, too, need the ankle support these days. Who makes them?

Casey, they came from Academy

and the maker's name is Brazos.

This will probably be TMI, but I have a difficult time finding shoes to fit. These are 7-1/2 EEEs. I bought separate (as in extra) innersoles, because the soles on these boots have zero give.

My SO is an old-school hiker, and likes the boots too -- although he bought Merrells for himself. :)

I remember those socks

but I can't imagine how you'd put them on. It would take forever wouldn't it?

yes, it does take forever

and they're not really all that comfortable to wear, which is why only had the one pair and never bought more of them, but they're a lot of fun nonetheless.

No it doesn't

No worse than putting gloves. I have tons of pairs. As far as being comfortable, I wasn't comfortable when I started wearing thongs, now I can't wear anything else. It just takes some getting used to.

The trick is to pull them on, then put each toe in its proper slot, them pull the rest up.
