OMFG. There's pre-negotiation, there's pre-capitulation, there's capitulation, and then there's outright grovelling

Quote of the day on health care insurance reform:

“It’s so important to get a deal,” a White House official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity in order to be candid about strategy. “He will do almost anything it takes to get one.”

Is this the "hope" part? Or the "change" part?

We haven't seen any evidence of him doing

"almost anything" to get a deal. It's such a weird comment. Why isn't he hammering the Blue Dogs, if he wants a deal? I don't see any evidence of him engaging in the kind of politicking that LBJ did to get Civil Rights passed, and this is a similar kind of effort.

I'm not sure that they are much more in the reality based community than the Bush admin.

It's the kind of deal he wants

He wants the Republican/Blue Dog deal -- giveaway to insurance companies. We've actually seen him do a lot. He has over and over again rejected Medicare for All. He's supported the Senate Finance Committee. He's threatened progressive Representatives. He's taken to the road to get all hopey and changey about your health insurance.

It's like Iraq. Even he can't say, "The U.S. will dominate the Middle East, with force until we have a reliable enough proxy in command." Instead, he reclassifies troops as consultants and just keeps them there. Similarly, he can't say, "It's in my circle's interest to give the insurance and medical companies bigger profits." Instead, he reclassifies health care as paying more to insurance companies.

can you imagine LBJ talking like that?

Obama won the biggest electoral majority since 1964, but he is acting like Clinton in 1995. I can't believe it.

Fixing the subject

I think your subject needs some fixing:

There's waiting until marriage, there's pre-marital sex, there's sex on the first date, and then there's outright selling on a street corner for $1.

That seems more accurate...

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
