On the Decline of PB1.0

Yah, yah, I know a lot of you are convinced he is the Enemy. But for a trustafarian white guy, Stoller keeps earning his progressive creds, no matter what else he may or may not do. From the blog post title of the year:

There are a lot of meetings going on, and that's one reason to be here. The media is here because it's their prom. But in terms of raw power dynamics, progressives are not particularly relevant. Hilariously, bloggers have actually been demoted; in 2004, we could actually see the stage at the Fleet Center, this time, online communications director Aaron Myers has secured us a room in the Pepsi Center with televisions in it.

Heh. Wake up, blogtopia. You're less than children to your masters, and they mock you for failing to grok that way back a couple of years ago, when they voted to condemn you. "But, but wait! I'm standing next to Steny! I must be important!" No, little rube, you're merely fodder for the media superstars who use you to make themselves seem more relevant. When you understand that, you're on the path to actually being Somebody. Not until then.

Stoller nails this point

"in terms of raw power dynamics, progressives are not particularly relevant"

and there's your problem, in a nutshell.

I don't think Stoller's the enemy

I remember him linking to me after I totally trashed him -- entirely justifiably, but that shows some intellectual honesty, which is very rare these days.

Yeppers. And the only ones affecting the dynamics...

... at least visibly are, for good or ill, the PUMAs. Who else is getting the press coverage?

how are bloggers benefiting from being there?

i don't see the point.

that's my only point, LB

he can take a trashing, and come back. who else in the PB1.0 can say the same? not many.

I can't say as I've read that much Stoller

I linked to Arthur's piece not because it criticized him, but because it summed up the truthy decay that befell PB1.0.

Progressives were very important

...to the Democratic Party until recently --- but were demoted by Obama into irrelevance.

what we're seeing in Stoller -- and bloggers like Jane at FDL and Jeralyn-- is an attempt to come to grips with the realization that we've been right about the piddle-roots.

Jeralyn wrote approvingly about Janes post explaining how bloggers hadn't been corrupted because there are corporate hospitality suites that they can't get into to. Of course, there is no reason to believe that the mainstream media has access to these suites (except for the suites run by the media.) And lets face it -- people like Jane and Markos and the other A-Listers have the contacts to get into those suites if they want to.

What the piddle-roots are coming to grips with is that they have rendered themselves irrelevant by supporting Obama. They can't yet say that out loud so they talk about the groups they feel morally superior to (stoller-- the mainstream media, jane--the corporate sponsors).

Neither party wants people who speak truth to power

They want yes-people

you know, paul, you put me to shame.

here i thought i was the hardest person to please on this blog. ;_)

...but i more or less agree with your points. we'll see how long it takes for the rest of the blogosphere to realize that obama really isn't our friend.

Is PB1.0 a mirror of the winger blogs?

Though Bush lost a lot of brand equity, the freepers and Pajamasers never changed their tune all that much, did they?

I guess we'll find out....
