At a recent White House reception for freshman members of Congress, Virginia's newest senator tried to avoid President Bush. Democrat James Webb declined to stand in a presidential receiving line or to have his picture taken with the man he had often criticized on the stump this fall. But it wasn't long before Bush found him.
"How's your boy?" Bush asked, referring to Webb's son, a Marine serving in Iraq.
"I'd like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President," Webb responded, echoing a campaign theme.
"That's not what I asked you," Bush said. "How's your boy?"
"That's between me and my boy, Mr. President," Webb said coldly, ending the conversation on the State Floor of the East Wing of the White House.
The wonderful thing about confronting Bush is that whenever you do it, Bush looks like the asshole he is. Why don't more Democrats understand this, and do it? Because now is the time.
The rest of the article is interesting too.
One leak from a Dem staffer saying Webb is going to be a "total pain." And, of course, that's the slant the editors take in the headline: Webb May Test Senate's Limits. Actually, in this story, at least, Bush came after Webb, and then acted like the asshole He is. Seems like the headline should focus on, you know, what happened, not what anonymous staffers say might happen in the future. But n-o-o-o-o-o ....
Good. Bush needs someone to be a total pain. And it sounds like this staffer does, too. STFU
already!
UPDATE Susie says it so much more nicely. I said "asshole"; Susie said sociopathic lack of empathy. Well, yes. Feel teh Shrill
