Via (TalkLeft (The Shrill One (John Heileman in New York Magazine))):
When Clinton met Edwards face-to-face in North Carolina ten days later, her approach continued to impress; she even made headway with Elizabeth. Whereas in his Edwards sit-down, Obama dug himself in deeper, getting into a fight with Elizabeth about health care, insisting that his plan is universal (a position she considers a crock), high-handedly criticizing Clinton’s plan (and by extension Edwards’s) for its insurance mandate.
Hmm. I have to say that getting into a fight with Elizabeth seems a rather remarkable thing for a cool, aloof guy like Obama to do, especially when it's not going to help his campaign at all.
I've always thought that Elizabeth was "likable enough," so what could be the problem?
NOTE Via manahmanahk,/> (and Mark Halperin), Elizabeth Edwards denies Heileman story.

As I just noted/quoted from "Audacity"
What a total fuck you to universal healthcare. Invoking the scary commie phrase "socialized medicine" ... and (unlike Michael Moore) not defending it.
Or possibly Elizabeth wouldn't let him go with her...
... to one of her doctor's appointments?

Obama's ability
Lambert seems to accept axiomatically that Obama is a smart politician. The second, implicit, axiomatic use is that every politician is flexible enough to play ball. (Hate
the health plan but still appeal its creator.)
As it stands, we know little about Obama. We have a myth, a cult, a mob, but he was never fully analyzed by any astute observer.
His acrimonious meeting with Elizabeth Edwards hints that Obama is not smart and inflexible.

I bet he figured
he'd just smile and talk pretty to her and win her over, just like everyone else.
Time to pull this post, Lambert

I think its safe to say, we should Elizabeth Edwards at her word.
'Obama does not believe his plan is 'truly universal'"???
Now that's the story here. I don't really need yet another post on Obama's misogyny.
But to hear the Universal Health Care walkback that started with the creative class types from Obama's own lips, and validated by Elizabeth Edwards? That's huge!

Neither candidate has a universal plan. Both claim to be proposing paths towards universal. You keep mistaking Hillary's image with reality.

Clinton's plan tries to cover all Americans without dismantling our private, for-profit insurance companies, but it fails to fix some of the systemic problems with the current system.

And for an explanation of what happened the first time Senator "I will fight for you or is it I will send you to fight in some desert" Clinton tried to deal with health care

She's apparently too misogynistic to accept this account.
Elizabeth Edwards
Here's the video of her denying the report that she found Obama condescending. Of course, earlier in the interview, she does note that only Clinton's healthcare plan is truly universal (although she spends most of the time smacking around McCain, which is a lot of fun).
