The weak go under; the strong grab their market share
So I'd say it's about a wash.
Not only did Walmart bring about the demise of many mom-and-pop retailers, they had a hand in either weakening or driving out of business regional department store chains like Ben Franklin, Grant's, Newberry's, TG&Y, and many others.
