Since, according to his biographer, Solzhenitsyn never told the cross in the dirt story, McCain can hardly have stolen it from him,* as, to pick a not entirely random example, the Jed Report maintains, along with the Cheetopians.
Jeebus, I hope WKJM
doesn't shut Sargent down again.
NOTE * As Sargent points out, there's a third possibility:
It doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility that McCain or his biographer, Mark Salter, picked up the tale that this happened to Solzhenitsyn elsewhere and embellished it for their own purposes.
But that's not the claim that's being made in the current haka.
The other ongoing haka is the cone of silence thing. Did Tapper nail it? Or are we still in the speculative phase?
NOTE Hat tip, myiq2xu.

Wasn't Jed involved in that phony "War Room" video?
IIRC he was in it up to his eyeballs

Gwad
I assumed that this allegation was based on a direct quote from one of many of S.'s works. No? They make an allegation like that without a page reference?
egad. lame. truly lame.
And yet, lame as they are...
... they can bring the lekkage with the best of 'em! It's a miracle!

maybe mccain darkened Solzhenitsyn's face in a video ;-)
i mean, there's gotta be SOMETHING evil he's done ;-)
thought exercise - imagine how the blogger boyz would fare in the hanoi hilton.
I've heard the cross in the dirt
story before, but damned if I can remember the context. I actually *think* it was from McCain, but couldn't swear to it. Has Sargent or anybody looked for it in Lexis-Nexis? For some reason, I'm thinking I heard it from him on Charlie Rose years ago, but I could be making that up.
Ben Hur
has a scene with a cross scrawled in the dirt as a sign of inter-Christian recognition, if memory serves.
Sign of the Cross
No, the cross scrawled in dirt was from "The Sign of the Cross" (1932) and was ahistorical for the setting of the film: Nero's time. The cross didn't become a Christian symbol until centuries later, the time of Constatine. The most common Christian symbol earlier was the chi rho.

Make accusations you can't prove
and when most of your "evidence" is debunked, keep insisting you're right anyway.
That's how you lose a character-based campaign against a media favorite.

Are these the kind of characters...
... that have serifs?
Oh, wait. That campaign worked out fine, just fine.
