Oops, I Think I Made a Mess

I suppose I can’t take credit for all of this, but I’m a little…surprised at the tone of these missives. And to think I was all serious and polite and not at all my usual shrill radical self, being the first commenter over there and wanting them to ahem, not run away skeered. From the DSCC blog (and note the number of party officials commenting here):

Re: Around the Blogs (4.00 / 3)

i think you all better come out with a statement about lieberman leaving the primary process and collecting sigs as an ’independent democrat.’ it’s not going over very well around the blogosphere. schumer didn’t help himself the other day, and i’ve read all kinds of pledges to give the dscc no money if lieberman isn’t the official nom but still gets money from the dscc.

Wake Up, DSCC (none / 0)

Well, Chicago Dyke, I am one of those who have pledged not to give to the DSCC until they start respecting their supposed mission of supporting Democrats. Starting to look more like an incumbent protection racket. Go Lamont.

[new] Lieberman (4.00 / 2)

Funny, still no comment from the DSCC on how Lieberman has greater loyalties than to his party? Why doesn’t the DSCC rescind its support?
I’m probably too small a donor to make a difference to you, but it’s clear that committed Democratic partisans are not going to support the DSCC for long if you keep supporting Lieberman without demanding party loyalty in return.

[new] Don’t bother (none / 1)

What we are seeing is the obvious, that we knew all along. Chucky and the boyz have no character or integrity. They would sell the rank and file in a heartbeat if meant they get to keep their cushy prestige gigs.
Put simply, they value being part of the incumbent elite club far more than such silliness as party loyalty, or heaven forfend…”the will of the poeple” (to get their viewpoint, swap people with “rabble”).

I will now be actively convincing people to not donate to the DSCC, and given I’m a state party official, that should bother them.

[new] Re: Around the Blogs (none / 1)

I’m a passionate partisan Democrat who will ask the DSCC to state that they will support the nominee of the Democratic party voters in the senate race in Connecticut.
Without that statement, I am left in doubt about the integrity of the DSCC and would not make further contributions to them.

You must not support Lieberman in dividing the Democratic Party. It’s not right. It would be a national issue. What an awful precedent it would be. If everyone did this, we might as well have no primaries. We should just divide our support down the middle, same our time and money, elect the Republicans by acclamation, and go home.
Although I’m very unhappy with Lieberman’s Bush hugging, I have not contributed against him. I can’t bring myself to do that. I’m willing to let the people of Connecticut decide in the Democratic primary and then I’ll support the Democratic candidate.

Lieberman’s position is totally selfish and self-serving. It’s an embarrassment to the party. Tell him NO. Tell him NO NOW.

He must withdraw this position and apologize to the party.

[new] DSCC and Lieberman (none / 0)

When will we hear from the DSCC about Lieberman’s decision not to honor the results of the Connecticut primary? Hopefully by the end of the day?
It may be emotionally difficult for the DSCC’s leadership to wash their hands of Lieberman, but there is no alternative.

Either the Democratic party and its campaign committees are in the business of electing Democrats or they should go out of business. Period.

[new] Re: Around the Blogs (none / 0)

I’m a county party official. We are active, run local phone banks, GOTV, fundraising and we will not support the DSCC if it does not back the Democrat nominee in CT. Sorry but Lieberman has simply made too many mistakes and putting himself ahead ofthe party. I couldn;t help but notice the comments on this blog are all about this and i bet we are not ’outsideres’ but active party members. Get a grip.

[new] Re: Around the Blogs (none / 0)

Senator Joe Lieberman’s announcement that he is taking steps to run for the U.S. Senate as an independent candidate if he loses the August Democratic Primary in Connecticut poses a critical challenge to the DSCC. Will it preserve its integrity as a Democratic Party adjunct organization by staying neutral in the Connecticut Senate primary and pledging to support the Democratic nominee, and only the Democratic nominee, in the general election, whoever that may be? Or will it breach the trust of Democrats, including its contributers, by interfering in the Connecticut Democratic Party’s nominating process or by supporting a candidate who runs against the Democratic nominee in the general election? If the latter, I for one intend to make all future contributions to selected Democratic Senate candidates like Ned Lamont, and not to the DSCC. It is imperative that the DSCC renounce Lieberman’s ill-advised and disloyal scheme to have it both ways.
