Origins of the "Tonya Harding Option"

All of these folks have tried to argue that this "Tonya Harding option" stuff was from some supposedly objective anonymous DNC official.

Nope -- this is something straight from Obama's people as I expected.

Obama: Not Going to Pull a Tonya Harding

December 28, 2007 7:49 AM

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told a crowd in Vinton, Iowa Thursday that he's not going to pull a Tonya Harding on his rival candidates.

"Folks said there's no way Obama has a chance unless he goes and kneecaps the person ahead of us, does a Tonya Harding," Obama joked, referring to the female skating champion who conspired to harm a competitor during the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

"We decided that's not the kind of campaign we wanted to run," he said.

Obama said his campaign has been trying to point out differences with the other candidates without going negative.

However the Clinton campaign has accused their Democratic rivals of negative attacks throughout the campaign.

The final judge will be Iowa caucus voters in just one week.

These guys aren't even particulary good at being surreptitious, are they?

So, yes, this is the Obama people whining about the unfairness of it all. They really need to try a new frequency these days.

He wished he had a mustache so he could twirl it

In December 2007, when Obama insidiously slipped this Harding meme into the mediasphere - like Claudius dripping poison into the ear of Hamlet's sleeping father - he chuckled to himself, "In two months time, when the chair of Hillary's fundraising committee goes on Fox News to say I'm an affirmative action case, my legions will have this misogynistic metaphor at the ready! Mwahahaha!"

He's a smart one, that Obama.

Oh good, Axelrod sent us a new one

The quality is improving, I grant you.

Axelrod?

This guy?

Never heard of him.

I found your site through someone's blogroll quite a while ago. Before Greenwald went to Salon, as I recall. [I hope my memories aren't disordered. I was under sniper fire at the time.] I liked the anger - as I had quite a bit of it myself. Maybe it was when the Military Commissions Act passed.

Jumping ahead to 2008, I was proud to be one of the 168 Utah Democrats who voted for Mike Gravel. [Mock if you like. The world needs laughter.] Then shortly after that, this Obama guy started to get to me. I decided that even an illusory hope was better than no hope at all.

So I went to the local Obamabot Assignment Center. [It's in a mall location that's been empty since the Olympics merchandise seller closed his doors.] You're under a local anesthetic during the chip implanting procedure. And afterwards they give you a cool "YES WE CAN" pin. I wore it last night while stealing Hillary posters off my neighbors' lawns.

As if now tuned in to some clandestine radio frequency, I found my way to Kos - whose clotted layout had always driven me away before. I signed up to comment and was soon having great fun hanging out with the cool kids in the mosh pit.

The few remaining Hillary supporters there always got the worst of it. But they were useful in helping keep me honest. For example: they got me to (grudgingly) admit that Hillary has as much claim to court the remaining superdelegates as Obama does.

When I visited here again, I was amazed to see how "delusional" you had all become. It wasn't so much your resentment of Obama. I can see how the unconverted might find his presentation just a bit too smooth. "Slick", even. And it's not like Hillary doesn't push our buttons the same way. The invention of the Hillary Nutcracker was not an accident.

It was your continued support of Hillary after the disgraceful campaign she's run. [That's not just me talking. You'll find plenty of former Hillary supporters at Kos who say the same thing.] Shrug off Ferraro's race-baiting as a rogue action, if you like. But Hillary's own teabagging of McCain as having "crossed the Commander-in-Chief threshold" was treachery, pure and simple.

So I decided to ask for entrance to the clubhouse here and probe a few areas. I have been mindful of keeping my antipathy focused on the candidate rather than her supporters. Is the "another one" comment your official notice not to expect a similar level of courtesy?

Either way, it's cool. It's just that if you find my feeble jabs too much of an irritant, you needn't waste your energy insulting me. Just do your admin thingy and revoke my account. In its way, that would be a more damning judgment of Hillary's candidacy than anything I have to say.

Jake Tapper

posted this piece yesterday and acted like it was from someone not attached to Obama's campaign. They've already used this metaphor before and it's obvious where it came from.

So when Tapper said he hadn't heard this before, he's either lying or he's an idiot. It was all over his own network's political blogs a couple of months ago.

So actually whoever spoke to Tapper wasn't being clever at all and was using something easily traced back to the Obama campaign.

You're welcome

It's all for the team.

Let me add

I googled "Tonya Harding Option" to see where it first popped up.

I expected DailyObama or TotallyPoliticalManure but I didn't expect to see it come straight from the pony's mouth.

Walks like a duck, not always a duck

The cut and paste tactic of the talking point du jour, as I said, a very old tactic of Obama trolls.

If you don't want to be taken for a troll, then don't do trollish things.

Obviously, we disagree on the nature of the campaign. That's OK.

Define "trollish", if you please

If there was a notice somewhere that this site is intended as a pro-Hillary forum, I apologize for overlooking it. In that case, I will trouble you no more.

If not, I ask you to observe that my posts have simply addressed - with my own unique flair, of course - what I perceive as Hillary's flaws as a candidate. They have not used vulgar or sexist language. They have not insulted other members. These behaviors are my definition of "trollish".

So where's the beef, exactly? If my "talking point du jour" - whichever one you might be referring to - is some easily debunked canard, you are quite at liberty to debunk it. Consider it a opportunity to deprogram an Obamabot for the advancement of Senator Clinton's agenda. If you're too wearied by the battle to manage that, you'll be better served by ignoring me or banning me. Your substance-free dismissals of my points - married to an unwarranted impugning of my motives - don't do your site or your candidate any favors.

ok

You said referring to your posts that "They have not used vulgar or sexist language".

However your previous post said "And it’s not like Hillary doesn’t push our buttons the same way. The invention of the Hillary Nutcracker was not an accident."

See anything sexist in that, my boy?

Oh, please

Way too meta. Do the research, man.

You're tired.

Rest up. It's a long way to the Convention.
