Our Racist Educational Systems: Go On, Try to Defend This One

Christ, don’t let Xenophon see this one. Really, this is the sort of thing that makes me want to scream. The best part? It’s been going on for two years, and they are just now realizing it’s “insensitive.” Racism is institutional, fo shizzle:

Over 100 sixth graders at Grover Cleveland Middle School in Caldwell spent several days last week taking part in an assignment where they used terms like “build a plantation” while completing their “Lap of Luxury” social studies project.

The project instructed students to create an advertisement defending the use of slave labor to run a newly built plantation in South Carolina. Students are told to come up with a ’”catchy” name for the plantation and give three reasons why slave labor is the “best idea” and to add illustrations.

One student, who is not being identified because of his age, read to CBS what he wrote for the assignment: “Slave labor is the way to go because slaves aren’t paid, so all money is profit.”

America, Fuck Yeah! Gotta love instilling them values, I know our children is learning.

witness. the lesson we are

witness. the lesson we are giving children. we can’t blame them for seeing accurately what is aimed for in a capitalist model. pure profit. at the cost of whatever stands in the way of that.

is it me…or do you feel a slipping feeling? as if we are sliding…backward?

I thought this was a parody

With insidious regularity the absurd is becoming the norm. Satire is in big trouble. Large.

Seeing clearly

So sad that we must spend our entire adults lives disguising from ourselves what children instinctively understand; but I suppose if it were otherwise, we would be living in a very different world.

It is physically painful to read this one.

I’ve got no words for it. Except to wonder if this is actually closer to the kind of jobs that will be waiting for people in the Bushistan America that both our political parties seem to want.

Abolish slavery from the US constitution

I know people think it’s absurd. But slavery was never abolished and exists in our country today. It is the driving force behind our prison industrial military complex and the reason why corporations have taken over the sovereignty of the country. Profit at the expense of humanity. This is the world America created. This is our legacy. Not freedom, not justice just the most brutal form of fascism to ever exist. That white paranoia that passes for guilt is going to reach a prozac induced fever pitch. All those years of mediocrity passing for merit are going to bite us in the ass.

With all the SUVs and “dog parks” nobody ever asked how do we do it? We did it off the backs of those we tyrannized, terrorized, exploited, pillaged and murdered. All so that Jill could play soccer, Mom could ride in her SUV to the damn grocery store, and Pa could veg out in front of the “Big Screen.” We have not been honest about our complicity in terrorizing the world. Anglo American civilization has left a devastating footprint around the world and has brought nothing but death and destruction wherever it has gone. Chickens always come home to roost.

As Alexander Stevens put it the “cornerstone” of the America rests upon the myth of American (white) superiority and fetishization of subordination and the other. Our government, is rooted at its core in slavery and the myth of a superior race. On this rock we shall be broken.

It is physically painful to read this one

Try living it.

Don’t blame this on Bush. This is America. We left apartheid thirty years ago. White america has been trying to go back to Jim Crow and slavery ever since. Republicans and Democrats, Conservatives and Liberals - all.

Moi? A Quick Study, But A Slow Learner

How did this assignment go unnoticed the first year?

I just read about this on Global Grind and I can’t believe this assignment has been done not once but twice. The nature of it is bad enough, but how did it slip through the cracks the first time? What are we teaching the future of our country?
