Our Unity Pony has arrived: there is one piece of sugar for all 17 million of us

Sen. Obama has finally announced that Obama supporters should be nice to Clinton supporters:
"At the fundraiser, he told a boisterous crowd of about 300 supporters that a win in November would require a unified Democratic Party, adding: "That means all of you have to be nice to Clinton supporters.""(WaPo, The Trail, The Green Zone's Matt Mosk.)

There were no apologies, or new policies for women, the older voters, Latinos, Appalachians or lunch bucket Democrats, or any other group of Hillary supporters.

Can we conclude from this that it has been policy for Mr. Obama to NOT rein in his supporters and bloggers previously? Can we conclude that even with his own very optimistic figures, Mr. Obama realizes he needs some if not all of the Clinton 17 MILLION VOTES?

Does this make anyone else feel as if they cannot vote for this person? After all, some of his supporters indulged themselves--without a word of protest from Mr. Obama until NOW--with bashing Hillary, and bashing women, the older votes, lunch bucket Dems, the Appalachians, and Latinos over and over again. Many of us were taunted for being our selves--actually BEING women or older or carrying lunch buckets, etc., etc.--as if there is something WRONG with us because we ARE women or older or lunch bucket workers or from certain areas or of certain heritage. We were personally attacked. And Mr. Obama knew it. And didn't he make a few remarks himself? NOW Mr. Obama wants our votes so NOW we can be ourselves without being attacked--by our own party, by our fellow bloggers, by our friends who are Obama supporters.

Is the price of being in the Democratic Party NOW that I won't be ATTACKED if I give my vote to Mr. Obama? No, the Democratic Party platform specifically stands up for people of all kinds. But is that the updated Obama Party plan? There is nothing else offered.

Where have you been, Mr. Dean? Where have you been, Democratic leadership?

Thank you for being strong, Hillary. Thank you for ignoring all the attacks against you personally. It has been an inspiration for those of us who have also been personally attacked. It is time for a leader for the Democratic Party, someone who respects the Democratic Party Platform of inclusiveness and respect and dignity for all people of all kinds. Hillary Clinton is that leader.

It's delusional

Now, they are going to be nice to us(Riverdaughter has a great piece on that up today).

They think if they're nice, he'll get our votes. Idiots!! The reason he is not getting our votes doesn't have anything to do with the niceties or lack thereof, of his supporters, though it isn't helping.

It has to do with lack of experience and policy.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

I'm not ready to make nice.

(sorry, but I still can't figger out how to imbed.)

What you do is ...

go to the video, copy the "embed" link, put it in your comment, add a less than sign, an exclamation point, --break-- and a greater than sign afterward, then scroll down to the "Input Format" screen and click the button for "Full HTML." What happens looks like this: <!--break-->

apropos of nothing

<!--break--> just practicing. thanks for the instructions. i'd been wondering how to do this.

I try agin

Obama Has Done Nothing To Earn My Vote

and has done much to make me reluctant to give it to him. If he is the nominee, he has from now until November to convince me that he will work hard for issues that I care about and he will work to protect core Democratic values. A spoon full of sugar or a D after his name is not enough. No trust - no vote.

He fell off the Unity Pony Months Ago

This "Sweetie" granny has already decided where he can put his lump of sugar. I will work diligently for any Democrat on the down-ballot (as long as they aren't a Blue Dog) in an attempt to get a veto-proof Congress if he is the nominee and I will write Hillary's name in. I am not ashamed of being a liberal.

He is an opportunist beyond compare and will do and say anything to get elected including calling anyone who would not vote for him a racist. His campaign has made it clear that they don't need us and don't want us, so I am merely succumbing to his mystical powers! His arrogance and entitlement makes Bush's look like sandbox play ...

Now he thinks he can patronize and play nice while he plans to declare "victory" this week ... a little too late ... that ship sailed months ago without him.

what if Clinton wins

suppose Clinton pulls an upset, suppose she could win Oregon and Montana and change the dynamic, what then? how would we win over Obama supporters. Remember, some of us (including your humbler servant) have been calling them the Obama Fan Base for months. I don't think they are very happy about that.

According to their meme, they will get over it

by November, just like they expect us to do if he wins.

Obama Will Be VP, If Clinton Pulls Out Nomination

And while I prefer someone else, I'm okay with that if it gets Clinton the top of the ticket. I don't think the SDs have the spine to pick Clinton, but if they do, they certainly won't have the spine to leave Obama out in the cold.

As for what else can be done to win over Obama supporters, I think we first must differentiate between most Obama supporters and the OFB. We will not win over many of the OFB, they'll have to simply be dragged kicking and screaming. They hate Clinton more than they want to win in November and I don't know that we can change that. The only hope we have is that some of the Blogger Boiz's fever will break around the time they realize that Obama isn't going to lead to them getting jobs.

I do think we can win over Obama supporters. For starters, I've never seen any kind of demonization of AAs who support Obama. Sure, there might be a comment here or there, but not long diatribes about how racist they are or awful they are or how they aren't needed in November (it's sometimes pointed out they won't be enough in November, but that's not the same as not needed). And Clinton herself has sought to maintain her ties to AA leaders. So I think we can start by acknowledging an Obama loss is going to be painful for them in the same way a Clinton loss is painful for a lot of women. We can and must respect that. Indeed, while I think an Obama nomination is bad for the party, it will be painful to see the effects of an Obama loss on African Americans precisely because I know how they would feel, having been there with Clinton. That it will almost certainly be cast as America being unready for any African American instead of simply rejecting this particular one, will also make it worse. I don't know if American would reject any African American candidate, but I don't know that it wouldn't either. Saying not this African-American is like saying not this particular woman, it doesn't really take the sting out. And it's worse because Obama is likely to go down for things like his controversial pastor - something that's been pointed out is not a problem for white GOP candidates - rather than his other weaknesses, like inexperience and thin resume.

Having said that, most polls show AA voters are not rejecting Clinton so much as embracing Obama, so there may be less hostility to overcome. And I think there are policy areas - like UHC - which would benefit AAs every bit as much, if not more, than any other American.

As for the urban liberals and "creative class", I think the way to win them over is to do what we've been advocating Obama do - put out policies to appeal to them. Like open internet policies.

The difference between Obama and Clinton is that I think Clinton has ideas about how to unite the party. From what I can see, Obama has no idea.

Support for a joint ticket highest in AAs

If I recall correctly, though granted with Hillary as VP. Arguing that the voters don't buy the smears. Which is a good thing.

Does that mean we have to have make-up sex now? Sweetie?

Because "Honey, I've changed?"

In any case, crowning yourself before you've actually won is hardly being "nice." Typical Obama mindfuck: Piss on your leg, tell you it's raining.

You can see how others do it

by a left-click on [Page] on the bar of your browser window, then [View Source] in the dropdown menu. More than one way to skin the cat peel the parsnip.

mmm, parsnips.

good thing you took that back, about the cat.

i've waded through the 'view source' of various blogs and websites, and i still have trouble figuring out which goes with what. it's doubtful i would have ever figured out that exclamation dash dash break thingy on my own, and i haven't seen it mentioned in any of the online html tutorials i've got bookmarked. nor have i got a clue what the difference is between filtered html and full html.

Demonizing Clinton

Demonizing Hillary Clinton was a principle theme of his campaign from the start. His campaign mistakenly thought that trashing Clinton supporters would bludgeon them into his camp.

Early on he said that his supporters wouldn't support Clinton but that Clinton supporters would back him. The worm has really turned on that one.

When there was talk among his supporters a while back about disrupting the convention he said nothing. I believe that made the DNC a bit antsy. Dean kept pressing to end the campaign ( translated - if Obama wins we won't see 1968 redux) to 'allow time to heal.' Tells me that extortion was another tactic.

No surprise. He learned his politics from the remnants of the old Daley machine and doesn't have the character to cast old Chicago aside.

I'm an old bread and butter Democrat. Won't work with me.

Simple Answer

"Can we conclude from this that it has been policy for Mr. Obama to NOT rein in his supporters and bloggers previously?"

YES.

Also go to top of the page right under the Corrente banner, click on [Books] and then open CorrenteWire Operating Manual, then Correntewire “How To”s.

I use <>paragraph break marks to manage spacing here under Full HTML, to prevent flow of text around the YouTube box. There are, as Sarah says, other ways to do it. Rule of thumb: compared to me, Sarah almost always knows best.

lost as a puppy in tall weeds

aha! the operating manual! the holy grail! thanks.

i wandered through all the input format and more information and even the html reference for a bit, but i really do need the paint-by-numbers version of this stuff.

If you want to own your data, you have to own your data format. Why I don't have a great deal of sympathy with WYSIWG editors...

i can has wysiwyg?

i understand about owning your own data, believe me. my workdays right now are filled with teach-yourself-python, teach-yourself-access, and teach-yourself-sql. i think my brain cells just went into meltdown when they discovered they were going to have to teach themselves html too.

Others have tried...

... and reverted to stuff like TalkLeft has. And call me crazy, but experience has taught me that it's faster just to type the tags in, and I type a lot.

Basically, thought, for this blog, two carriage returns for a paragraph, I, B, BLOCKQUOTE, A, and IMG will do you.... That's not too hard. "If you open it close it" and "Preview is your friend" are the guiding principles. Just think of HTML is a fancier variety of punctuation.

A lot more happens with the HTML under the hood, but you don't have to think about it.

html ptsd

waaay back when the www was in its infancy, my mom and i built her website from scratch. neither of us has ever been quite the same since. :-)

i and b, easy as breathing. a and blockquote, take but a moment's thought. the rest, i've come to depend on blogger's nifty little icons, but i'll adjust.

anyway, thanks for letting me join the blog, truly, though i confess to a small pang of sorrow that the ability to comment as 'anonymous coward' seems to be gone.

Then the only think you need to know is IMG

The principle is exactly the same as A: there are attributes, which are name/value pairs that get stuff and tell the browser what to do. The attribute names are src, align, and hspace, and all you really need to know is src. The attribute values are surrounded by quotes. Remember to balance the quotes, just as you balance tags.* ("If you opened it, close it"). Because the IMG tag is empty, that is, you'd never type anything inside the opening and close tags, unlike BLOCKQUOTE, it's closed like so: />, to save keystrokes.

<img
src="{VALUE}" align="{VALUE}" hspace="{VALUE}"/>

1. src: For the value, a URL to the image, which the browser will then retrieve. That's all you really need to know.

2. align: If this attribute is present, text will wrap around the image. For the value, left, right, or middle. I always use left, which puts the image up against the left margin. If the text is too close to the image, put a value in hspace like "6px" which will put that amount of distance between the two.

<img
src="http://www.flickr.com/my_image.gif" align="left" hspace="6px"/>

NOTE * These are straight quotes, not curly quotes. Sometimes MS Word will "help" you by turning straight quotes curly.

thanks.

now that i know how to do them, i'll try not to get carried away with the pictures.
