Pinch hard, Mein General...

QOTD from AP:

"You have to pinch yourself a little to make sure that is real...

No shit, Sherlock.

....because that is a very significant development in this kind of operation in counterinsurgency," [General Petraeus] said. "It's all about the local people. When all the sudden the local people are on the side of the new Iraq instead of on the side of the insurgents or even al-Qaida, that's a very significant change."

Museum-grade happy talk, eh? What's Petraeus doing? Angling to write his own report instead of having Bush do it for him?

Not that there's anything wrong with that:

I mean, these people have no incentive to lie to us, right?

NOTE The utterly amazing thing about the whole "waiting for General Petraeus to, er, sign off on his report" kabuki is that, as it turns out, Bush doesn't even trust a political general to write a politicized report. Jeebus, Bush picked Petraeus for his mad teabagging skillz, and so now He goes into auto-teabag mode? What's wrong with these people?

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
