Please, can we just get the "Chertoff's Gut" attack over with?

Because the kabuki is getting really tiresome. Just.... Bite me:

President Bush said Friday that Congress must stay in session until it approves legislation modernizing a U.S. law governing eavesdropping on foreigners.

Except it's not his call. Unless Shooter has some bizarre superpowers we don't know of, as the Fourth Branch of government.

"So far the Democrats in Congress have not drafted a bill I can sign," Bush said at FBI headquarters, where he was meeting with counterterror and homeland security officials.

Don't say can't. Say won't.

"We've worked hard and in good faith...

First time for everything, eh?

with the Democrats to find a solution, but we are not going to put our national security at risk. Time is short."

Well, why don't you just keep breaking the law, then? You did before. What's changed? Oh, wait. I know. The need to blame Democrats. That's what's changed.

Anyhow, you've covered your ass now, "Mr. [sic] President." Nice work.

Besides, this isn't about surveillance at all. It's about making sure the lawbreaking of the criminal Bush regime is never exposed and retroactively legalized, and about blaming the Dems when a second 9/11 happens on Bush's watch.

I mean, it's all too transparent, and right out of the Republican playbook. Why are the Dems even taking it seriously?

What I want to know is,

will there be a response -- other than the same response the Gulf Coast got after Katrina and Rita -- to the bridge collapse? Or will W want more tax cuts for that, too?

IMPEACH. NOW.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.

Random term

The origin of the term is obscure; everyone talks about the duck pit, but nobody ever says where it is, what it is, or how the people destined for it will get there. Believed to be a Babylon 5 reference, however. Usage example: Aux duck pits, citoyens I found this at Orcinus: "Some liberal commenters, for instance, on certain threads I read have devised, satirically, a "duck pit" into which all conservative minions will be cast on the day of liberal reckoning, there to be nibbled to death by a thousand hungry ducks." If I remember correctly, it originated in comments at Atrios, as a response to violent threats by Right Wing trolls. Sometimes sillines and absurdity are are a good antidote for hatred.

I support Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Americans United is dedicated to preserving the constitutional principle of church-state separation as the only way to ensure religious freedom for all Americans.
