Portrait of a Kossack finally getting it

Or not.

Kid Oakland, he of the “casual poetry” of Obama-fame (see example) is shocked, shocked that purging all the [not Obama] supporters from The Obama 527 Formerly Known As Daily Kos could have real life consequences:

There was a moment that gave me pause. I was having a friendly conversation with three SoCal kossacks in the hallway on Saturday when two Los Angeles-based delegates approached. These women, both experienced delegates and friendly Clinton supporters, were happy to chat about what we had in common: blog reading, support for Debra Bowen, curiosity about the Migden/Leno battle and the 2010 governor’s race. One of the women, wearing a Hillary button, went out of her way to compliment our group of younger delegates (wearing Obama buttons aside from me…a press pass guy) for attending the convention. I asked her if she read DailyKos and she replied curtly:

I’m on strike from that blog.”

That surprised me.

That would be because you’re not talking to half the party—and you’re only reading the rec list at Kos. (It’s also likely that she only spoke to you because you weren’t wearing an Obama badge. Because otherwise why invite the abuse. Eh?)

I’ve met thousands of kossacks whether at Las Vegas or Chicago or events here in California, and I’ve never once had a negative experience asking if someone reads DailyKos. … Obama’s line about “Friends before and friends afterwards” is true.

That’s what struck me with that comment. I think we’ve all got to take a step back and think about that for a second. This was a woman who was cordial and welcoming and yet she felt estranged from DailyKos. The strike shut down the conversation.

Oh, it was the strike that shut down the “conversation”? What is this, the management perspective? I don’t think so. Maybe I got the title of the post wrong, ’cause I left out the “not” before “getting it.” I guess traffic must be down, after all, though, for this post even to have been written.

That needs to change. Now.

I’m open to your suggestions how.

How about having Lord Kos issue a grovelling retraction or two? Start with this one.

Then we can work on calling out the grotesque misogyny of the Obama Fan Base, as expressed on thread after thread.

Deal?

Fundamentalist Freak Show

Yeah.....

……………I know Kid personally. He’s been to our D/L, Oakland meetups many, many times. When he started on his ’The One’ diary crusade I immediately commented, this was months ago, to the effect that he and I must of necessity part ways using one of my favorite Lincoln quotes, you should know the one I mean. About ’standing with your allies when they are right and parting with them when..’ .well you get it.

He hasn’t been to a meetup in some time but I look forward to his return.

In all phases……

Now they need us?

“I thought to myself, these folks aren’t new at this. They’ve done this before. In fact, looking at the assembled sign-toters something struck me for the first time, Hillary’s supporters know conventions.”

Somebodys been hit over the head by a clue stick!

“To win, Barack Obama will need every last experienced activist the Democratic party can muster and those experienced activists need to feel utilized and included as respected equals.”

Clueless isn't just for Valley Girls

I am a guy who worked for several years in the field of family law.

I can’t count how many times I’ve heard some clueless guy whose wife or girlfriend left him say:

“She’ll be back when she realizes how good she had it.”

That is the attitude I have seen from many (mostly male) Obama supporters towards Hillary supporters.

“I don’t belong to any organized political party.
I’m a Democrat.”

Whoa! The fundamentalist Freak Show Link is Sizzlin'

….the first comment pretty much nails it for me. The more you see of Barry the more you realize that his ’handlers’ picked him….well, ’cause he could be ’handled’.

My young niece is thinking about which University she wants to try for and asked me about Harvard……

I told her based on recent alums performance in the public eye I had my doubts about the place.

Blog Traffic

It looks like some Obama blogs have seen a decline in traffic, at least since March 4. See http://allspinzone.com/wp/2008/04/01/can… . Of course, that could also just be the fact there haven’t been primaries to get people interested and its a larger community than most and so may be subject to larger swings in traffic than the smaller pro-Clinton sites cited, which do not appear to have seen a decline in March. It’ll take longer before we know for sure.

As for kid oakland’s epiphany, it’s always the bullies who are the last to see that the damage they do isn’t limited to the folks they’re beating up. They’re too busy pounding away to think about the potential consequences for them.

I was only an occasional DK reader, but I’ve now found so many other blogs, with so much great, interesting writing and not just about the election, that I don’t so much consciously avoid the site as I don’t think about going there. If someone links to something interesting, I’ll read that post, but I only have so much time for blogs and the time I used to alot to Daily Kos is now going elsewhere.

Good business decision

Lord Kos’s yearly traffic shows a huge increase. It remains to be seen if the monthly drop off has an impact. What concerns me is that, at least in the political portions, it’s not a community.

great link, gq--

and people take their cues from folks like KO at kos—all the “names” there have to stop posting garbage and blind obama love and hillary trashing before many will come back.

(as i type this—on my tv, Chris Matthews starts fellating Obama for an hour—ugh

That entire diary

read like on long version of

’Hillary should do the gracious thing and bow out now, and not only bow out, but convince her supporters to let bygones be bygones and help Obama win, cuz if Obama wins, all the down tickets Dems will win their elections!!!! Then Obama will show us how progressive he is and we’ll get all the legislation we’ve ever asked for!!!!!’

It’s Clinton’s ’moment’!!!!!! To prove she’s not everything we know she really is!!!!!!!

Rhymes with Witch!!!!

It’s late, I’m cranky, time to check out.

The co-opting of the blogosphere

Sometimes it seems that the same thing that happened to the labor movement 100 years ago is happening to the political blogosphere today. Markos Moulitsas is Samuel Gompers.

…for the rest of us

I should thank Markos

for a couple of things. If it hadn’t been for the Hillary-Hate and the blind support of Sen. Obama, I might not have discovered this site and many others that have varied, critical, informed and for the most part civil discussion of issues. If it hadn’t been for that site, I would not have looked more closely at Sen. Clinton and her platform. I do not miss the screaming, vindictive, insulting comments that pass for intelligent debate. I do not miss the misogyny or the racism, yes, racism because any criticism of Sen. Obama gets labeled as racist. Disgusting.
My visits to that site slowed long before the strike. I made a point of only to read certain diaries that remained apolitical but even those diaries became mine fields in the comments if you supported the wrong candidate. There was never any love for Clinton and after Edwards dropped out and it was clear this would be a race between the two, the place just spiraled out of control. Even the more reasonable administrators (Hunter and Meteor Blades) couldn’t moderate and the wimpy attempts at sanctioning some members without banning them was ineffective. And most who were sanctioned were not the problem children.
I had been a longtime reader, lurking before joining. I was there through the 2004 Dean/Kerry debates, Armando/Kos agreeing to disagree and the 2006 mid-term election. There was very impressive diaries about the environment, health care (dear to my heart) and some of the most creative, funny stuff. And lest I forget, the IGNT diaries that memorialized the terrible loss of our soldiers lives from Iraq and Afghanistan. Now those diaries are gone in a flash.
I learned a lot things there. It was kind of like an undergraduate course on the Internet and Blogging. The site became almost an addiction. I read it everyday and felt I had missed something if I didn’t. But Kos made it easy for me to withdraw and when Alegre called for her strike, I was already an infrequent lurker and had not been there for a couple of weeks when the strike started. I will not even link to diaries now, as I do not want to contribute to the traffic.
Sorry if this rant is a little disjointed, I am getting ready for work and just had a few extra minutes. Thanks for the place to vent.

Re: Now They Need Us?

The people that need to be hit over the head with a clue stick are Dean, Brazille, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Kerry and company for backing the weakest Democratic candidate. Did they do this because Obama would me more “flexible” to the whims of a Democratic controlled congress than Clinton?

Enough with the shit

A.Citizen and you, too, rootless. Feh. I don’t have time to deal with this tonight, so shut the fuck up.

NOTE You too, ribo. Go shed your viral coating elsewhere, just for tonight.

UPDATE Honestly. Baiting a known troll. How low can you go?

UPDATE Heck, I just suspended the three of ’em. Gets tiresome after awhile.

The fact that Kos

has been in denial puts him squarely on my list of bloggers I don’t take seriously. His epiphany didn’t exactly motivate him to self-reflect on what he’s done. And I doubt he ever will without someone smacking him with a 2 x 4 of reality. Seems like Kos lives in a Kos bubble.

If he issued some sort of incredible mea culpa, wouldn’t matter to me. He can’t suck back the evil gender-bashing genie back into the bottle. He’s got a lot of amends to make and I don’t ever see him doing that.

Wondered

the same thing. It’s as if they don’t want Hillary to win ’cause they will have to work hard. With Obama, not so much.

That Hello moment has arrived...........

Just read his post at DK and the comments (not all) and it seems that quite a few still don’t get it.

My problem at this point (being the unforgiving type) is the race-baiting. I’m sure if Obama is the nominee that the Clintons will be expected to kiss and campaign for him. After being called racist, I would find that impossible to do—because, for me, that is the lowest of low rent, scum-sucking tactics.

KO doesn't get it

when we left daily kos, the misogynist obama screamers followed us over to myDD and started harrassing us there. kid oakland was particularly obnoxious about it, with posts about “the strike has failed” etc., despite objective evidence that daily kos and americablog have declined 30-40% in page views in the last month, while neutral and pro-hillary blogs are doign fine:

http://allspinzone.com/wp/2008/04/01/can…

kid oakland publicly muscled the admin at myDD to get people banned by posting his emails to myDD admins in california political blogs. they’re all bullies, and all bullies are cowards.

the scary part is the efforts by dKos obama supporters to get real-life information about hillary supporters. normally, messing around with RL info is grounds for instant and permanent banning at dKos (at least, that’s what the published rules say), but admin there never raised a finger, which looked to me like a nod and a wink to the people doing it. the people who did it still post freely there. ugly, ugly stuff.

Got a link on that, campskunk?

That RL stuff is something I hear rumors about, but haven’t seen. Not worth a post, but a nice data point to have….
