Presidential Debate Open Thread

I'd like to watch, but then I do need to clean my kitchen floor....

On the other hand, I'd hate to miss anything:

Like McCain suddenly sprouting bat wings.

Or the Spirit, like a dove descending (John 1:32), alighting on Obama's shoulder.

You never know!

Comments

this one should be good...

...television at least.

"what to watch for"

"... Mr. McCain said of Mr. Obama on Monday: “My opponent’s touchiness every time he is questioned about his record should make us only more concerned.” Expect him to follow that line of attack tonight.

As for Mr. Obama, watch for him to continue to try to link Mr. McCain with President Bush as he makes the point that most voters think the country is headed in the wrong direction. ...

Watch for Mr. McCain to present a hotter, more confrontational persona, while Mr. Obama will show his cooler self, both in the sense of remaining unruffled and in staying at more of a remove from the audience. ..." -- http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/...

in other words--same old, same old

this'll suck, unless one of them breaks character.

Obama's "daily spending ... more than $2.8 million"--

"... The Obama campaign upped its daily spending to more than $2.8 million, almost double what the McCain team spends daily now. ..." -- http://adage.com/campaigntrail/post?arti...

If we're gonna talk money and economy (and judgment), i wonder if this'll come up? They're using 1000 dollar bills for toilet paper in the Obama camp--and he's still only a tiny bit ahead.

Small town gossip...

I heard from the girlfriend of a FL McCain organizer that the campaign down there is in total disarrry -- Palin was in Pensacola, or some such place, and the state campaign didn't even know she was coming.

No big deal

During Hillary's campaign, I spent some time in NV and it was pretty common for last minute appearances to be scheduled in. Sometimes staffers wouldn't find out until a couple hours before and the phone scripts would change from GOTV to WSBC/HC (Wanna See Bill Clinton/Hillary Clinton?). I remember similar things during 2004 as well. Sometimes the higher ups in the campaign think they would get something out of visiting a certain place and will throw it in if it doesn't screw up the rest of the schedule. It could mean a disorganized campaign, or a campaign smart enough to know it needs to adjust. That may or may not be better than a completely 100% scripted campaign.

Ya know, lambert, it just seems that

the repubs aren't even bothering this time around.

I've never seen an election like this. It's a sham. Neither candidate is worth consideration for the office.

Blech.

The Best Man.

Not.

I agree

Again, in 2004 the first Swift Boat ad was in May, IIRC. This is October, and they're just starting with Rezko? Either there's no money, their hearts not in it this round, or the fix is in. Or some combination of all of three.

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Bush-Clinton

was a poor GOP campaign too (eventually taken over, but not salvaged, by Jim Baker). Especially after Bush-Dukakis. Of course Lee Atwater died in 1991 too.

let's bet--

any Ayers/Wright/Rezko questions?

any Keating 5 questions?

If one more person tells me

that Obama HAS to run to the (right-of) center to be elected, I'm going to kill someone slowly and painfully. Isn't it that politicans are more worried about corporate America than the voters they're supposed to (HA!) represent?

Michigan, btw, will have Prop 2 on the ballot this year. It's a proposed constitutional amendment to permit, with certain limitations, stem cell research in Michigan.

First, the ads against it claimed wrongly that taxpayers would have to fund it. That didn't work, and now tonight, I see that the people against it, aka religious fundies, are now using the embryo "harvesting" argument.

What really pissed me off is that a "Say No to Prop 2" sign was put on the "tree lawn" (no sidewalk) in front of the Catholic Church this weekend. I haven't driven by since, so I'm not sure it's still there. Nevertheless, isn't that skirting the roolz?

FL has that hateful marriage amendment thing this time--

so that's going GOP for sure.

Will stem cells bring out voters in MI? (i'd be disgusted if i was from there after all the primary/delegate bs)

my debate prediction

Heard just now from a couple of sources, both with the same thing. Obama will hit McCain on the failure to extend unemployment benefits, rightly blaming Senate Republicans and holding John McCain - the Leader of the Republican Party - responsible for not whipping them to help the most desperate Americans.

According to one, Obama is actually pissed off about this; took it as a personal affront and a direct slam by McCain. We'll see what it turns into but there's my bet for a debate moment.

Interesting, if true

And about fucking time.

Also interesting, if true, that Obama responds to personal affronts. Guess I need to turn the knobs up to 11.

Unless this was irony, of course. So hard to tell, sometimes!

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

So much for my fucking sources

Hah!

Wishful thinking, maybe.

Brokaw picked the questions?

they should just have done random selection from all those submitted.

Did McCain just propose HOLC?

?

this is really dull--

and Obama's wearing too much foundation.

Terribly dull.

Obama and McCain agreed that there should be no follow-up questions (bi-partisanship!). Tom Brokaw didn't agree, though. So where are his follow-ups?

sounded like HOLC to me

Shocking, that!

he would vote for it, i bet--

and he likes Hillary and Bill.

notice how they keep the other in the tv camera frame in bkgd

when they're speaking?

on Clinton-- "... pay attention to what Mark Goodman, Mark Gring, and Brian Anderson call "visual bytes"—those TV-friendly actions "that convey a meaning or value."

In a recent paper, the authors portray Bill Clinton as the living genius of the town-hall format. In 1992, the first year the presidential finalists used the format, George H.W. Bush's forces "simply practiced verbal arguments and rebuttals" prior to the appearance. But Clinton's people capitalized on the rules that allowed the "debaters" to move about some. According to Goodman, Gring, and Anderson, they "laid out a grid, complete with fake cameras and doubles for his opponents and the audience, to train their candidate to utilize space effectively."

They continue:

Americans were thus introduced to a new variety of political persuasion. By positioning himself on the stage in relation with the background, to his debate opponents, and to the live audience, candidate Bill Clinton encoded the television image in a manner not seen in traditional moderator or panel debates. He literally carried on a commentary through movements combined with expressions, reinforcing his own oration and "invading" the discourse of others.

They cite another academic—Alan Schroeder—who discovered that Clinton "choreographed his moves so as to keep one or the other of his competitors in the camera shot at all times, a maneuver that circumvented the prohibition on cutaways of one candidate while another was speaking." ..." -- http://www.slate.com/id/2201505/

Amberglow

The medical marijuana and stem cell proposals, here in Michigan, are polling landslide-type victories. If anything, it's bringing out the liberals, this year. And, thank god, because we just got over two very bad proposals (banned affirmative action (2006) and same-sex marriage (2004))

This townhall format is almost too intimate. I'm finding myself already tuning out. For whatever reason, I thought this was going to be a much larger hall performance with people on all sides. *yawn*

BTW, Obama has a great (and very long) commercial playing up here in Michigan that talks about the economy where he's speaking directly to the camera. Wish he would have did this about three months ago.

I think Obama IS the Republican candidate.

I got no evidence other than the whole damn doesn't make a bit of sense otherwise. I think the deal was this - Obama had to take Clinton out in the primary, and if did, the Republicans wouldn't run hard against him in the general. Heck, it will be a lot easier to be the minority party for the next four years, than the majority. Anyway, I think that's why the DNC behaved the way they did - why tolerate all that abuse and cheating on his behalf, unless they think its a guaranteed win? And why would anyone look at Obama, with his paltry legislative background, his utter lack of accomplishment and his unsavory personal ties and think he could win - that is, unless the fix is in.

The GOP offered Bill Clinton a similar deal in 92 if he'd just wait until 96 to run. Bill turned 'em down. What makes us think they weren't offering deals this time either?

Obama--"I, I, I, he didn't, he never" ...

then saying "you're not interested in politicians pointing fingers"

ugh

Is it just me?

Or is Obama not very good at this?

Disclaimer: I can't stand McCain and won't be voting for him.

No FDR so far...

Help people stay in their homes -- but no mention HOLC.

Financial regulation -- needs to be international, but what does that mean?

annnd

If I were playing a drinking game based on "my friends" and "well, look," I'd already be hammered.

"how can we trust either of you?"

that's a good question.

so Obama talks about Bush? ugh.

bad answer.

he just repeated McCain's line about sending money to Saudi Arabia! hah!

Ms. Finch is cynical

For suggesting both parties screwed the American people on the economy. Haw! Maybe, it's time to start making a tally of how many times Obama says cynicism.

she's right--that's why Obama didn't really answer--

he didn't tell her why she should trust him.

And McCain does the same thing!

On this, the Village agrees: People are cynical!

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

and she knows we can't trust either of these fools--

McCain +1 Cynical point

Another mention of cynicism as if it's a unjustifiable disease.

BTW, neither of them are doing well at this. I'm missing Palin and Biden, already. Scary.

Brokaw: "Entitlement reform?"

Fucking Villagers...

Obama priorities:

1. Energy -- $15 billion a year (as opposed to a trillion for the bankers...)

2. Health care blah blah

3. Education...

And prioritize tax policies as well (which is not bad, actually).

because there's no money.

this is already the Village's verdict for the next administration no matter who it is.

The Sternly Worded Letter

Could either of them referenced their sternly worded letters any more last night? You'd think that their only recourse as Senators was the same as ours - sending off an email to be ignored. That makes me just as qualified to lead on those issues as them.

it makes us all more qualified actually--

we don't stop with letters--we act on our beliefs with votes and donations and further action until what we want (and what we say we want) happens.

If Brokaw Says "One Minute" one more time...

I'm tired of his incessant chiding for the one minute rule.

Four-to-eight years of this?

McCain trying to keeping his robotic talking points straight, or Obama dragging us through his word fogs.

they're both doing talking point fragments--

and they're both sucking.

McCain walks around better tho, and makes eye contact with the audience while Obama talks to Brokaw.

OK; that's it. STFU Brokaw.

He's really pissing me off, now.

McCain began with overhauling "entitlements" instead of economby

and healthcare?

Oooops.

Re: Obama--What does this line by line review of the Federal budget mean? Things he won't put into his budget submitted to Congress? Or...?

i think he wants line-item veto? (a gop thing, btw)

no?

Every president asks for the line-item veto

Didn't Bill Clinton want it, too?

did he?

i don't remember him agitating for it at all.

Did McCain just say we're going to eliminate Defense?

If the program isn't working, he'll cut it, right?

i think he'll cut some of the stupid things, like billion dollar

planes that don't fly and stuff.

Yeah,

he talked about it in the last debate, too.

Get 'er Done

McCain talks about warm and fuzzy togetherness and getting things done. A nice theatric touc, but it was immediately preceeded by the terrible "spending freeze" idea that he keeps hitting on lately.

Gawd this is tedious

I want Hillary. Or hell, even Joe Biden.

Or, even, Sarah Palin!

Sheesh.

But, McCain is not doing all that well in what is touted as his great venue.

Obama: "A lot of you remember the tragedy of 9/11"

Nine... what?

I was wondering who would be the first

to bring it up. My bet had been on McCain -- oops.

we don't want to lose out or sacrifice--

that's why we vote for a president--so that he'll work for us. i wish Obama would learn that.

Sacrifices

Obama slams Bush "go out and shop..."

But as for sacrifice? As if being unemployed with no health care wasn't enough....

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

What sacfririces ask of American people?

McCain--eliminate some programs. Earmarks (petty cash, great).

Cut spending. Spending freeze, except for defense, veterans' affairs, also national defense?

Little stronger on healthcare just then--can do more than one thing at a time, won't tell someone without insurance to just make do. Will address.

Obama--Attacks Bush for telling citizens to shop after 9/11. Goes to energy--need for individual efforts to curb enery use. He'll tell Big Oil to begin drilling on their optioned areas or lose right to do so. Huh? Make the effort weatherize homes? Did he say anything about support financially?

Obama wants us do the work--and he'll delegate

or oversee or cheerlead or something.

Obama is much easier to listen to.

My eyes and ears are having a much tougher time following McCain than Obama.

Obama (to paraphrase): drill, baby, drill. *ugh*

neither of these 2 should be on top of any ticket--

the VP debate was far more substantial and meaty.

Obama defending earmarks

only 18 million of the budget

I'm used to being this depressed AFTER the election.

I've never been this depressed BEFORE the election. 300 million people, 50 governors, 100 senators, and this is the best we can do?

They're the same candidate. It's hard to know which one is more full of shit.

Send me on a space mission to Mars please. i'd like to check out for the next four years.

Canada or EU might be better than Mars--

they have social programs and healthcare and stuff.

Nice point on earmarks vs. tax cuts for the rich

Obama good on on hatchet vs. scalpel. "Unfair burdens."

McCain goes to the tried and true with "Obama wants to raise taxes..."

Okay, I'm going to start that drinking game now.

they really are.

both are simply repeating the same bs they say everyday on the road.

Obama defending earmarks

only 18 million of out budget

Ack!

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

he's a wimp--

and he got scolded too! (and didn't answer back at all)

very passive-aggressive.

Such a contrast to

"I'll fight for you!' Innit?

Who's Got the Biggest Tax Cut?

This could be a new reality show. My god, they just don't get it.

and it's the GOP framing of everything--as usual

tax cuts instead of what they'll use the govt to do for us.

Obama taking the bait on Social Security "reform"

Ugh. And he refers to "solving" Social Security.

Ah, the Village is speaking through Brokaw--will you give

Congresss a date certain to fix SocSec (which doesn't need fixing, freakin'-A!) and fix Medicare.

I cannot believe he was so obvious in being in High Broderism mode.

And, yes to whomever said it above--the Village MCMers are making clear that the next prez must be fiscally "responsible," no matter that they said nary a word about BushCo's profligacy. And that during Hard Times, government spending helps the economy and is going to be necessary for some to survive.

McCain--not that hard to fix SocSec. Damn you, Brokaw--it's not freakin' broken.

Medicare--tougher. Commission come up with recommendations and have base closing commission up or down vote. Oh, hell's bells.

if Obama was good he would flip this all

to talk about what he'll do for us---but he's not.

he simply agrees with the Village and that's that.

McCain is Charged Back Up?

He found some kind of strange second wind. He's getting aggressive, now.

note how he compliments us all the time--

Obama doesn't.

McCain: "It's not that hard to fix Social Security..."

Sit down like Reagan and O'Neill

On Medicare, have a commission! (like base-closing...)

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

OMG!

McCain just said Obama was anti-nuke because he was in favor of "nuclear power being safe or disposing waste or something like that."

Wow.

except Obama is pro-nuke

--very much so, actually.

McCain's eyes light up...

when he speaks about global warming and green jobs. One silver lining in all of this is that we have two candidates that will be better on the environment than George Bush by miles, I believe.

EDIT: Obama says McCain not really for alternative energies.

The computer was invented to communicate?

?

Obama: "Drilling... and that's important"

.

"You Know who voted for it 'that one'"

Haw! Good one, McCain.

I guess those comments about the good ideas coming from Repubs

and those Harry and Louise attack ads against Hillary did come out of how he really thinks about things.

I have never not felt frevently in support of the Democratic nominee. It's strange and stangely liberating. It also makes it easier to critique both sides...heh.

Visited my elderly neighbor in the hospital today--she just got out of IC after 2 and a half weeks there post-surgery. She was alert and wants to vote, so I have to check on absentee ballot for her--she's not sure how she's going to vote, but she really does want to vote.

I do hope my pessimism is unwarranted. But it seems we have two poor choices.

Ooooo....healthcare as a Commodity

Good question, audience member, good, good question.

Obama's already slipping and sliding through this one.

Obama wastes 1/2 his time diagnosing the problems--

which we already know about--it's so dumb.

Waiting to see if Obama will answer question...

... about whether healthcare should be a commodity. Doesn't seem like he's going to answer it.

unraveling of employer-based healthcare---GOOD!!!!

but Obama sees it as a bad thing.

HR 676 not even on the radar

Of course, McCain's suckitude is massive but at the end of the day... As DCB says, we can't afford not to do single payer, though of course we can postpone the day of reckoning with half measure like "affordable" health care.

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

It was a simple yes or no question.

And, they both coward out.

Hair Transplant?

Did he just go there?

fyi--12k for family to buy hc themselves -- &

3k in costs to employee if employer provides (and when you don't have any big-ticket problems)

McCain government-bashing about healthcare

His tax credit bullshit. Aargh!

Brokaw Cuts to the Chase with Health care.

I'm stunned.

he's very pissy tonight--trying to regain control--

he's the star, after all.

Obama: Health Care is a Right.

'Bout damned time. Too bad his health care plan doesn't make it a right, but his plan is still so, so, so much better than McCain's.

he doesn't believe that or there'd be mandates and UHC

in his plans.

if he does believe it, he's a horrible piece of shit for not enabling that right to be exercised by all.

it's a "right" the way he sees equal marriage rights

---not one at all in reality.

Amberglow--he didn't want to have to be precise, so wasting time

is great.

Now, McCain's plan is not good, so he's making as good an argument as he can, but it's going to hurt.

$5K for a family of 4, iirc from discussion today on Diane Rehm's Show.

Healthcare--privelege, right, or responsibiity.

McCain--responsibility. He seems to be saying it's a responsbility for the employers? Or the individuals.

Obamna--Right.

i think that until employers stop offering bad health insurance,

we'll never even get close to true universal health care--so McCain's plan actually could get us to Universal.

I'm with amberglow

To call it a right, and then not make it a right... Well, it kinda reminds me of that Fourth Amendment we used to have...

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Finally OBama says something I like

and clearly:

"I think healthcare is a right. In a country as wealthy as this..." etc.

Then he sort of wanders off into incoherence.

he says it but his plans don't follow thru

at all--all his policies are like that.

if something is a right, then it MUST be provided to all Americans regardless of cost--it's absolutely fundamentally important if it's a right.

Delaware

O M G "Delware has pretty loose laws."

Hot damn.

Every time he

brings up watching his mother dying of cancer while fighting with the insurance company, I wonder why he wasn't doing the fighting for her.

i know!

it's like he was watching it on tv happen to strangers.

Because his mother insisted on doing it herself

so as to not be a burden to others. Very brave and very dignified and someone to be admired. Everybody deals with their own death, and the death of a loved one, differently. Not my place or anyone's to castigate others based on supposition.

I was dipping in and out of the Diane Rehm show on healthcare,

but I swear I heard her say twice that people need to organize and show up in huge marches and demonstrations demanding decent healthcare. Seemed to be saying that until there's massive pressure, nothing will be done.

Guests pooh-poohed single-payer that caller brought up. Said it had been voted down in CA and another state--DC, accurate?

no--i don't think it's ever come up statewise--

only Mass has something closer---but that's just mandates and subsidies and still mostly all private.

it has to be national anyway, like SS is--

it can't work state-by-state piecemeal.

Has Obama criticized Biden for...

... spending years pushing America to invade Iraq? Maybe those things are just looser in Delaware.

Obama's Plan

is still infinitely closer to universal coverage, so that he falls short of his belief is a major concern, but pales in comparison to my concerns for McCain's health care plan. McCain just doesn't win on this one; he just doesn't no matter how much one tries to snake it through.

Obama Doctrine--use of military if not direct nat'l security?

Obama--May have moral issues at stake. Must consider, act if genocide, ethnic cleansing is happening. Must consider as part of nat'l interests. But can't be everywhere all the time.

McCain Doctrine--McCain goes right to date certain for Iraq w/drawal. Obama would have have brought troops home in defeat.

US great force for good, must do what we can, but must temper with understanding of limits of our capabilities. We went into Somalis as peace keepers, tried to be peace makers, and had to leave humiliated.

Sending most precious asset, Am lives, into harm's way--will not take lightly.

Oddly enough...

Nah

BIO Does being for Obama turn on a sexism gene?

You think I'm gross?

It's McCain who's gross. Can't keep his eyes off of Palin's - ah - podium and plays with his wedding ring while he watches her. Note especially the scene and replay at the end, where Palin's body language and expression just scream out "Please don't touch me!"

Jet Jockey moves in for the press anyway.

Lie down with the OFB...

After the doctored war room video that smeared the Clintons as racist hit the A list right before IN, a YouTube about an Obama opponent and five bucks will get you a latte.

Hilariously, bringiton's video is from the JedReport! This Atrios linkee and DK rec'd poster is the author of my all-time favorite age-ist smear!

I do hope people don’t stereotype [McCain] just because he’s old and senile. Maybe he shouldn’t run because the last thing the elderly in this country need is the triggering of ugly stereotypes about their bowel habits. They already suffer from enough incontinence.

Ha ha! Teh funny!

Or not.

Thanks, once again, for proving my point, bringiton, that the OFB have, indeed, moved on to age-ism from misogyny. It's appreciated! And, needless to say, with advocates like yourself and Jed, I'm feeling great about your candidate! Aging and bitter as I am...

Nice of 'em to catch on to the sexism thing, though. A little late, but better late than never. Even if it is totally instrumental and without a shred of principle.

You're welcome, Lambert

You know how much I like to please. Should have tried for the trifecta, maybe written "black virgin baby goat gonads" whadda ya think?

Too much PC prissiness around here these days if you ask me, but what would I know? I'm just a sexist ageist willfully stupid shit. Thank goddess I'm not a racist, like you; I'd feel really badly about that.

You think the vid is doctored? You haven't watched any of the joint McCain/Palin appearances have you? Pretty damn creepy; he keeps checking out her ass, and she stays as far away from him as the stage will allow. There are plenty of them on YouTube if you're, ah, interested.

Oh, and more linky goodness! You want me to come play on the ageist post, don't you, you warm teddy bear tease you. I was going to let it slide, but since you insist....

I think it has no provenance

Didn't say it was doctored. I do want you to show me it wasn't, though. The burden's on you. Not my fault the Obama supporters on the A list pissed in the well on vids; but there it is.

Actually, I thought your quote was pretty funny -- the goat gonads and so on. So over the top it isn't any kind of an -ist -- just like my own brain-bleaching joke, which I wouldn't call "prissy."

And you'll notice I left the whole thing alone until the JedReport vid came along. But JedReport? That quote's fucking appalling and deserves to be called out for the bullshit it was.

But I take it you've got no problems with it? Even pragmatically?

[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Oh, Lambert; you do go on.

The faked racist vid was stupid and unforgivable and nothing good to be said in defense so that's that then.

For this vid, not the same vid, you want proof of a negative? Bigger project than I have time for. The vid's a mashup, for certain, no claim otherwise and I should think self-evident; I did think the background song was well chosen and yes, pretty damn funny but then I'm also a pig - forgot that on the list.

Photos of McCain ogling Palin and fondling his ring are all over the web, maybe you've missed them. I saw the clip of Palin trying to evade a hug from him on network TV before I saw it here; looked damn odd then too, like someone who'd been groped having to deal with the groper. My projection, to be sure, but there you are.

Embedding the vid doesn't endorse anything else from the site; if I meant to do so, I would have.

The Jed "ageist" quote? You put that up here, not me, remember? I didn't endorse it at all, I didn't circulate it, and see no reason why I am now being challenged to comment on it. What on earth is that about?

Not something I'd write - well, probably not - and not helpful in any way, but in the totality of damaging things in the universe it doesn't trip my trouble meter. We all have different trigger points, I guess.

Yawn

I asked for provenance. Where did appalling JedReport get the vid and how was it made? That's not the same as proving a negative. In future, I'll shorten our exchanges by stopping at the first off-point response; hopefully that will ease your burden.

Anything you can do to ease my burden is much appreciated

Thank you so.

Here we have a vocabulary disconnect. When I think of establishing provenance I would have to go to the original video sources and verify them, followed by interviews with multiple attendees to document that the actual events were faithfully reproduced. Seems a bit much for what this is.

In comparison, the faked transcript/video claiming racism from a Clinton operative was malignant, there being no history to suggest any such attitude. For McCain, however, there is an abundant history of womanizing and adultery with much younger women; it isn't as though these suggestions can harm his already tattered reputation in that regard.

Further, assuming as I do that these clips are reflective of reality and the movements and facial expressions depicted did in fact occur based on my having seen them reproduced on network and major cable TV and that the originating network was FOX, his behavior speaks to a larger issue of impulse control. That McCain can't manage to make it through a speech without checking out her ass while playing with his wedding ring adds to the again well-documented pre-existing inability to control impulses - and that is surely a fair topic for evaluation of his fitness for the presidency.

If all you wanted to know was who made the vid, maybe you could have oh I dunno just asked that? The last screen on the vid says:

Video edited by
JEDREPORT.COM
The Jed Report

so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it was made by Lawson or someone associated with him. As to how it was made I have no idea and can't imagine why it matters; there are a dozen decent video editing programs and they all do pretty much the same things. If you feel it's of great import perhaps you should write to Jed yourself and ask him; surely he'd be delighted to hear from you.

Regards ageism, I'd hate to disappoint you so let me just say McCain is what he is and God love him, I do have to admire his ambition. Both his run for the presidency and his checking out Palin are sort of like seeing an old dog rouse himself from sleeping on the porch to bark at a passing rabbit; endearing and pathetic, all at the same time.

yo, willfully stupid one!

i have called you that before, haven't i? my apologies though, sweetie, if i've somehow slipped up and left you off my list. iirc, it was in connection with medicare for all, but i could be misremembering. we could go at it again if you like, but it'll have to be at another time, i'm off to catch a few zzzzzz.

"more troops in Afghanistan"

ugh

how many words is Obama using to tell her he won't respect their sovereignty?

Did he answer the Pakistan hot-pursuit question?

I spaced out...

yup--he'll go in and do what he wants--

no matter if they say no or not--same answer as always.

Obama Doctrine in Pakistan sounds like the Bush Doctrine

.

it's the Cartman doctrine--

a whiny and defiant "I'll do what i want!!!"

THIS time Obama over-rides Brokaw

Better.

After McCain got in on it.

"Green behind the ears"? Isn't that supposed to be "wet behind the ears"?

Audience ?--respect Pakistani borders or ignore them as we did

in Cambodia--that's a red flag to lefties!

There are people plotting to kill Merkins right now in Afghanistan. Need to change policies, not coddle leadership in Pakistan as was done with Musharrof.

He pronounces it Pah-kistahn bcz he visited there?

McCain--Walk softly and carry a big stick. If you announce you will attack inside another country's borders, usual reaction is for that country to resist us.

Need to be diplomatic and persuade, not get hackles up. Help Pakistanis go into Waziristan. Work with them. Use force, only where necessary.

Obama insists of follow-up.
McCain says if BO gets them, he should get them.

Now Obama is going on and on and on and on and on. Wow.

McCain refuting BO. Camera tried to focus BO anc McCain, then pulled off BO--whose expression was, well, I found it kind of cat that ate the canary. Other reactions?

Bush had Iraq--Obama wants Afghanistan

it's horrendous.

Obama really hates anyone calling him names--

he's so thin-skinned.

that whole "wet behind the ears" thing--such a psychodrama.
