The Primary Wars have begun

Remember how I said I was dreading the coming primary wars?

I think they have begun, sparked by Tucson.
The memorial rally is a clear signal to me that the President WILL seek re-election. He's not anticipating a primary challenge, so the campaign is already focused on side-lining probable general election contenders.

The MOTU want a contest between two bought and paid for corporatists - a true win-win for them. The President is determined to be the winning corporatist. The GOP have any number of wannabes to replace him.

Any action taken by the msm or the admin that doesn't seem to make sense will make sense when viewed in the light of "how does this affect 2012?"

The pipes are calling, the whistles sounding, the drums of war are beating. Tribes and clans are being called to once again assemble. Are you ready to pick a side or will you stay neutral and be universally reviled?

This has been a public service announcement by your jaded and cynical neighborhood cassandra.

Please have a nice day.

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Thing is, the left (as distinct from "the left") really did lose 2010 for the Ds. So the role of the "the left" will be to get the left to "come home."

I would say that at a very minimum our role -- for some definition of "our," and the recent hoo-haw about Palin'sMR SUBLIMINAL Don't you mean "Sarah's"? failure of leadership with her "Blood Libel" speech has made this a rather salient point -- in this is to stop that from happening.

The conservatives are going to do what they do. We can't affect them in any way. What we can do is call bullshit against those who purport to speak for our interests in Versailles, and betray us (single payer, DISemployment and no Jobs Guarantee, HOLC, name it).

"And we get?"

UPDATE Anglachel (vehemently agreeing with RD, as do I) writes:

Those damn transactional, practical folks who give a little here and take a little there, aren't much in the mood for conspiracies, don't agree with any exterminationist sentiments (left or right), don't like culture wars standing in for political contest, and are getting really, really tired of single-issue, faux-victim politics.

Sure, but. I'm all for transactional politics myself, as my propagation of "And we get?" indicates. But to have a transaction, you've got to have two participants in the transaction with roughly equal power, since otherwise what you've got is the political equivalent of an unconscionable contract.

So how can the left (as opposed to "the left") get more equal bargaining power? At a minimum, by making sure that the Ds lose to the Rs. I can't vote for the Rs, because the R aristocracy tortures animals. But I can withhold my vote, or vote for a third party, and that's what I intend to do. If you want any kind of bargaining power at all, the people at the other side of the table have to know that you're willing to walk away from a deal. And the only way to make sure they know that is.... To walk away from this deal. That also means that it's not the conservatives, but "the left" who are the real enemy, because their job is to keep us at the table, in a disempowered bargaining position.

of Blaming Sarah Palin. I hope they pick a catchy danceable tune.

Obama kicked off his 2012 campaign with his "Puddles in Heaven" speech, and I already detect a whiff of "Rally Around the Democratic Party" on some of the so-called progressive sites. Bush did the most damage in his second term, and I shudder to think of the atrocities Obama is going to inflict if he gets another one.

What's that? The trickle down effect?

Needs to have the connotation of being not just a Pastor, but a corrupt or dishonest one. The "False Prophet" concept needs to get in there, IMNSHO.

I'm glad I am not the only one who noticed it.
A re-elected Obama, like W, would declare hiss reelection a mandate to double-down on all his policies and an Obama Second Term, imo, would be one of historically unprecedented looting.

if he's elected again. IMO, we'll see an even bigger erosion of our civil liberties, too. Oh, and you're right about the looting. Look at him now, promising to ease regulations and you just know he's going to try to gut Social Security.
I do think a logical and painless step is to register as an independent, Green, Libertarian, or any other party. I'd love to see both parties go into a panic, because people are dropping from their rolls left and right. It seems like a small thing, but it could have a huge impact, and one they will certainly notice. I know many already have, but I'd love to see more and more do so.
People say it's us against the corporations, but it's really us against the politicians. They're the ones enabling the corporations, and we have to get these old, entrenched, corrupt people out of our government.

are the problem, I agree completely.
We don't just have to get them out, we have to figure out how to stop anyone in govt from looting. Otherwise they will just be replaced by new corrupt people.
