I’m tired of seeing the same damn people on the teevee.
Solution:
Turn off your teevee.
Or better yet, get rid of it.

QOTDOutside the locked room is the landscape of time, in which the spirit may, with luck and courage, construct the fragile, makeshift, improbable roads and cities of fidelity: a landscape inhabitable by human beings. It is not until an act occurs within the landscape of the past and the future that it is a human act. Loyalty, which asserts the continuity of past and future, binding time into a whole, is the root of human strength; there is no good to be done without it. i should have turned it off, but then
i would have missed Obama acting like Kerry—giving million-word, drifting, non-answers to questions from viewers and Blitzer on CNN.
and this, of course—McCain calls Obama out— ” “We have all become familiar with Senator Obama’s new brand of politics. First, you demand civility from your opponent, then you attack him, distort his record and send out surrogates to question his integrity. It is called hypocrisy, and it is the oldest kind of politics there is.””

Sad. They’re falling like dominoes.
good for a laugh
corinne -
“lord eschaton has been assimilated”
that’s the best laugh i’ve had all day.
i immediately had an image of duncan black being slowly engulfed and eaten by a giant amoeba (a formless, form-shifting creature, you understand).
we all must come to understand the inexorability of logic,
when applied by well-educated wise men.
I actually got a TV
during the 2004 campaign because I wanted to understand what information people were getting that would cause them to vote for Bush. I very much felt like I was living in an entirely different reality. Then I kept it for the Sopranos, and now I’ve got to keep it around for Dexter.
Netflix
You can watch pretty much anything out there. If you can’t get rid of your TV. I know The Sopranos and XFiles are so much easier to stomach than the talking heads.
Iphie, Dexter rules!
and so do movies on demand.
I’d love to see recent ratings for Countdown.
Dexter Season 3
sometime this fall — just in time for some desperately needed distraction.
Ooooh, Iphie
if Lambert lets us, we can liveblog it!! (while the creative class turns the country into Xanadu - the crappy 80s movie, that is.
Huh?
You don’t need my permission to do that, FrenchDoc. LiveBlog away! Of course, if I think it sucks, I’ll say so, but you knew that.

Yay... Dexter Live Blogging in Fall!!
This will a hell of a lot more fun that what we had to deal with today!
When Neil Cavuto Is The Voice Of Reason
you know you’ve entered some sort of Alice in Wonderland version of hell.
Via Riverdaughter:
This is another reason why you don’t need to watch live television. Wait and watch the interesting bits on You Tube.
Also, via Riverdaughter, apparently tomorrow is a Hillary Money Friday. So if you’re planning to give tomorrow might be a good time to do it.Dexter
There is something to look forward to this fall!
Nails on a chalkboard.
Flavia Colgan’s voice.
She never answered
the Ted Kennedy / John Kerry question. Hmm… I wonder why. /snark
The Problem Isn't Her Voice
it’s that she’s screaming.
And I point that out because Hillary has gotten so many hits on her voice. Women get that all the time. But I really don’t think with Flavia it’s the pitch, it’s that she set her volume at 11. Nobody sounds good screaming.
I noticed she never answered the question either. That was fairly common in this interview, I think. She kept talking past the interviewer. Hmmm, I wonder why?
I will give Cuvato this, he has no problems admitting the GOP is going to tear into Obama. In fact, given the overreaction to Hillary’s “attacks” I suspect he’s looking forward to the carnage.
Great clip, BDBlue
LOL!
She said "I'm here to commentate."
Us uncreative and classless types intentionally mangle the English language as a riff on Der Chimperor, but usually bloviating gasbags are expected to talk rite.
—————————————————————————-
” … we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender …”- Winston Churchill
one thing about Flavia
she is not one to let truth or reality to get in the way of her arguments.
facts is facts
McCain calls Obama out— ” “We have all become familiar with Senator Obama’s new brand of politics. that didn’t take long. The GOP won’t have to spin, they can just tell the truth — that’s one of the things I hate about this.
Just what I thought, Paul
I suppose if we’d just gotten into the car earlier, none of this would be happening. Not.

Media Matters
Duncan Black works for Media Matters for America. He has to watch TV. He watches TV so we don’t have to.
Sounds like we will be watching Daschle. Not me, I will boycott news until we have real journalism again.

Yes
He was one of my absolute favorite bloggers. He has tried to be even-handed.
Oh, you're right, DCB
I forgot Duncan did that, my bad.
But the occupational hazards are terrible, aren’t they? TV really is bad for you.
Kate, I agree. Duncan gave a lot of us our start.

I Had A Similar Reaction to McCain's Quote
Wow, it’s the first time I think I’ve ever agreed with John McCain. It was unnerving. Kind of like watching Neil Cuvato and not wanting to punch someone.
Fox really has done a better job covering the primaries. Sure they hate all democrats, but as someone here or at Talk Left said, it’s easier to filter the bullshit when it’s being aimed at both democrats. It’s harder when it’s just aimed at one.
And, let’s face it, it’s hard to get more sexist than the guys MSNBC employs. It’s hard to be more awful than Bill Bennett and Carl Bernstein on CNN. It’s not so much that Fox got better as everyone else has gotten worse. And I hadn’t thought that possible.
The only thing I watch on television is fictional and even then I record it and skip the commercials. Television news isn’t news, it’s punditry and it’s bad punditry at that.
i no longer own a TV, and i bet that's why
i’ve been less susceptible to WWTSBQ
/TSBL. i was depressed for a very short while yesterday—and even that was mostly because the commenters i was hanging out with at TL were depressed, and they in turn, i think, were depressed because they were watching the usual hacks on TV. ugh.
i posted this at TL, but i’m reposting it here, my favorite FDR quote (adapted for present purposes, as bracketed):
“We know now that Government by organized [media and marketing is just as dangerous as Government by organized] money [which] is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob. Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred. I should like to have it said of my first Administration that in it the forces of selfishness and of lust for power met their match. I should like to have it said of my second Administration that in it these forces met their master.”
p.s. although i don’t own a TV, suddenly i’ve been hearing a bunch of kaiser permanente commercials on the radio lately. hmmmmmmmmmm…. i wonder why that is. wouldn’t have anything to do with hillary’s universal health care plan now, would it???!!! naw, of course not.
lost bearings on the health plan

Another indication of how y’all have lost your bearings is that when I have note that Hillary is not offering a universal health plan, not a single person has been able to come up with a fact based response. Mandatory insurance purchase is not universal health.
I know: i didn't leave the left, the left left me ??

I agree. Obama should have stayed with the DLC songbook and complained ineffectively instead of forcing mccain on the defensive.
Amazing, isn't it?
The OFB
are tropic for the hate trigger, never for the actual content.
It’s rather like playing Mad Lib — just fill in the blank, and boom.
What I want to know is whether the triggers add or multiply. Like, if we used Paul Krugman and Bob Shrum in the same mad lib, would we get 2x the hate, or 4x?
I’m guessing multiply.
