Progressive Infrastructure and Political Courage

Dave Johnson writes at HuffPo about how it’s easy for GOP politicians to follow the wishes of their ideological base while it’s much harder on left side of things. Read the whole piece, especially the part about impeachment, but here’s the money:

1) The right has an infrastructure that rewards and punishes their politicians and progressives do not.

2) The right’s infrastructure has developed communication channels that reach out to the general public with demand-creation efforts and progressives have not.

3) The right has a movement-oriented funding system that stretches from top to bottom and progressives do not.

Consider this my answer to CD’s question of the day.

i don't know shy, is that an answer? or a statement of fact?

these are points i’ve accepted, as i know you have. what is to be done to change them? that was the meat of my question.

if you’re saying that progressive need to “build an infrastructure,” have i mentioned how much i hate that word, i always have to spellcheck it well- how do we do that and what does it look like?
i am not trying to be bitchy or negative in any way here. i think it’s a discussion we all need to be having.

because, i’m really realizing that “no one is going to save us.” i haven’t added xan’s catchy little “we are going to die” tagline because to me, the shorter version is “do it yourself or die.” but i think that comes across as too harsh. still, it informs my thinking on my post, as well as how i view your response.
