A. Lie, act like dicks, and fight on the GOP's turf.
[Y]ou simply can’t build a progressive politics from the desire... to overstate, mislead and inflame.
I'll add that you can't build a progressive politics by buying into post-partisan equivalation, either.
On the one hand, "progressives" are painting the country that's about to overwhelmingly turn out for Barack Obama as a bunch of rednecks who would never vote for a black man (and painting any vote against Obama for any reason as an act of racism). On the other, we're covering the sins of the GOP every which way, with fabrications about bickering partisanship and John McCain's unimpeachable heroism.
Talking honestly about our political reality and having any faith in or respect for the American public remains strictly off the table.

so i can forget my truth commission pony..
one of the major things that has completely turned me off the Democratic party and politics in general this year is this insistence that we are ALL to blame. "Washington" meaning Democrats and Republicans... not the Bush crime family of pirates, thugs, and succubi specifically.. just Washington..
and so there is this perception that we do not need an accounting--a truth commission if you will--to uncover the blatant corrupt pustules of this criminal enterprise known as the Bush Presidency and the Republican enabling party..
nay.. in fact since all are to blame in "Washington" then it would be a futile, fruitless endeavor to hold such an accounting as no one could ever hope to find any wrong-doers.
so better to just "move on" to the "business of the people" whatever that supposedly is.. oh, yeah, handing over the last $1 trillion to the criminals who are on their way out the door..
sickness.. all around..

It's mind-boggling to me that this doesn't stick in most craws
Some of us must be mental defectives, those of us who are unable to see the virtues of self-disempowering, foundational lies.
and they're all GOP lies--
and everyday they're reinforcing all of them.
Disempowering
VL, that one word sums up this entire political season, for me.
There are few other times in our history where one ideology that found its home so squarely in one party and espoused so fervently by one president, ran us so royally into the ground. This year was so very much on course to allowing the setting of a new progressive course for the country. I'd never thought I'd look back on the Dems choice of Dean in 2005 as the DNC chair as the pivotal moment when we lost this thing (even when we won), but that's how it turned out. It was with that picked that the neo-libs (who really are rather conservative, mind you) were allowed to start peddling the post-partisan bullshit narrative.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
