Real Dems use the government and the system as it is to make life better for all. (We also don’t pretend to believe any one person can come in and change a whole entrenched system of governance and politics—one that’s always worked in the past under Democratic control.)

Real Dems punish Govt. lawbreakers.

Real Dems put people before business.

Well, that would be Oh Hail Yeah, from where I stand ... n/t

i love real dems. i love you guys! :)

damn, was that just too cheesily earnest of me?

all of a sudden the mighty corrente building is silent. okay, i take it back.

Nah, Kangeroo

It’s just really late… things might fire up again tomorrow!

Should we add “real dems are cheesily earnest”?? ;-)

Real Dems

real dems don’t swiftboat other dems.

dems don’t attack progressive organizations, but moveon has been nothing but an obama 527 used to swiftboat the opposition.

Real dems don’t purge the party

real dems don’t tell dems that have been dems for more than 25 years that they are not dems. dems, dems, dems, dems… : )

real dems stand up to the usurpers who think they can stroll away from the republican party (kos, huffington) and take over ours. WE WONT HAVE IT!!!

got that space?

real dems don’t tell dems

real dems don’t tell dems that have been dems for more than 25 years that they are not dems.

What exactly is the purpose of this thread but to do just that?

Real dems are proudly progressive

… which is why you folks are rallying around a DLC centrist. Please. As lambert says,”yawn”. Your outrage is boring.

By the bye, there’s a difference between Democrats and democrats. You should figure that out before you deign to tell us who “real dems” are.

Welcome back, dmd76!

Last I checked it was Lord Kos who read Hillary out of the party. Project much?

But then, what would I know? I’m a racist, and not “creative.”

Besides, I’m too old to think that misognyny is OK, or that disenfranchising two states is a clever move.

Obviously, your Democratic Party has no need for me; I comment only from the distance. Good luck!

Real Dems aren't haters

Real Dems offer constructive arguments, not destructive criticism

Real Dems are inclusive, not exclusive

Real Dems know that fixing problems is hard work

Real Dems fight till the last dog dies, then smile, shake hands and work together (until next time)

Real Dems aren’t waiting for change, they’re working for it.

Real Dems remember the dark days, and who was there with us.

BTW DMD76: Progressives can be centrists.

Progressive ain’t a spot on the political spectrum, it’s an attitude.

Centrist is someone between liberal and conservative.

You know, the thick part of the bell curve where 80% of the voters are.

conservatives to find common ground, isn’t that “triangulating?”

The OFB are really trying to gin up

this MovedOn thingie, aren’t they?

I thought MO was supposed to help elect Democrats, not some Democrats.

I know I’ve been reading stories for months about long-time Democrats getting pushed aside by loud, obnoxious young newcommers flooding the caucuses.

Hasn’t translated to wins for Big O in the primary states though.

Good thing FrenchDoc

Good thing FrenchDoc provided for us a list of characteristics of “real dems”, myiq2xu:

Real dems are proudly liberal

Hey Lambert, when you falsely implied that Obama would privatize Social Security, were you doing it out of ignorance or with an intent to deceive? You hightailed it out of that comment thread so fast, I and your other readers (I’m sure) were all left wondering.

Gee Dmd: Where did Frenchdoc say

“only?”

“Real ponies don’t oink” - Patrick McManus

myiq2xu: here I thought

myiq2xu: here I thought providing a list of qualities of “real dems” was an attempt to distinguish them from fake “dems”, you know, dirty Obama supporters. Thanks for setting me straight; it’s actually an inclusive list, I just didn’t notice the implied “some” before each item.

[some] Real dems are proudly progressive
[some] Real dems are proudly liberal
etc.

Hey, what would I know?

I’m a racist. Just flick me off your shoulder, no problem.

Speaking of dirty, dmd76.

Lambert

Who the fuck called you a racist? For the benefit of those who don’t know what you’re talking about, I responded “those damn kids and their rap music” to a post in which Lambert swoons on the fainting couch because Obama flicked his shoulders, an allusion to a Jay-Z song. That, apparently, equals calling Lambert a racist. Fucking hack.

You still haven’t answered my question. Did you lie or did you really think Obama would privatize SS? I don’t think you will: not enough intellectual integrity.

Where did I mention BO (or HRC for that matter)?

Where did I list [some] dems?

You have a funny way of reading this, dmd76. OR is it that you guys in the OFB are so used to automatically switch to WORM mode that you can no longer just read simple sentences for their obvious meaning.

But what do I know, I’m racist, uncreative and probably bitter too… and obviously, a dead-ender but no longer a Democrat.

But that’s ok since BO won’t need the votes of people like me in the GE.

NO, it was not, dmd

Obama flicked his shoulders, an allusion to a Jay-Z song

Have you seen the video? Jay-Z brushes his shoulder off, Obama flicks it.

You know what you flick off your shoulder? Bird shit. This attempt to link the two is a pathetic attempt by the OFB to contextualize his denigrating remarks, by claiming it was a popular culture reference.

And as for Social Security, I’ll defer to progressive icon, Paul Krugman, who was fighting our battles long before Obama. And his economic advisor Jeffrey Liebman.

In the link, Liebman talks about the differences in PRA’s, then goes on to say we should try it, and do all these very hard a substantial things on top of that, to still protect Social Security. Very hard substantial things that won’t be done, so it will, in effect, privatize Social Security.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

Let me help

did you really think Obama would privatize SS

Not only did I think that, I still do. Like the Republicans, he just won’t call it “privatization.” He’ll call it “personal choice accounts” or something of that nature. Ding! Unity ponies for everyone!

Cenobite, see Liebman link in my previous post,

Scary.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

Aeryl, I didn't know about that article

But it was pretty much exactly what I expected.

Since he acknowledges that Medicare is a clear and present problem (and he doesn’t say this, but the current accounts deficit is far worse), but social security is well funded for many, many years, why is it that we need “bipartisan reform of Social Security”?

I think that’s easy to answer. There is a very very large pile of US treasury bonds in the Social Security trust fund, and with “reform”, they can play three card monte with it and make it disappear someplace.

The part that gets me

Is that he lays out very cogent arguments for partial privatization(ignoring the sole strength of Soc. Sec. is that everyone participates), but then lists six things that must be done to protect Social Security.

But none of the people who support privatization want to do those six things. It is a stupid and circular argument.

Bill Clinton for First Dude!!!

"He lays out..."

Link, Aeryl, link!

Who the fuck called me a racist?

About a billion fucking OFB, vast swarms of them, when Axelrod and the Kos sysadmins were purging The Obama 527 Formerly Known As The Kos Community of all [not Obama] supporters. Sorry to keep clinging to that.

Next?

Con-men

Whenever you hear anyone talking about “reforming” Social Security, your first thought should be “It’s a trick. Get an axe.”

This link:

http://harvardmagazine.com/2005/03/refor…

"It's trick. Get an axe." I love it!

Exactly. As I weary of repeating to Obama’s defenders on this, the argument is not “He said crisis!” “No, he didnt!” The argument is that when you put the issue in play, you play by Village rules, and those rules lead to privatization. And that’s what Atrios called Obama on, back when Obama was dogwhistling the right for his margin of victory in the early primaries.

Huh

Yesterday, I was told by a “real Dem” that it would be better if I didn’t vote for Obama. Prolly cooties or something. Another orange purity troll (Geekesqe) said once I “pledged to support Obama fully” I’d be forgiven for ever doubting him. Loyalty oaths, now?

Not vote for a Dem at all?

Just clarifying. I mean, I’m starting to get all “my party left me,”* but not to that extent.

NOTE * My litmus test is making the voters of MI and FL whole. If the Dems can’t do that, then the institution really is rotten.

[x] Any (D) in the general. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.

Since I'm in a blue Western State

I said I don’t have to vote for Obama and I’m not going to. Of course, if the presidency hinges on my one vote, perhaps I’ll think about it. If he signs a loyalty oath to me.

Up without down

Real dems are all over the map. Always have been. That’s why media conglomerates are able to treat us like shit, and then wag their fingers and shake their heads at the terrible condition of our discombobulated country.

Real dems know that there is no such thing as profit without loss, up without down, light without dark (without dark there is nothing for the light to shine on, without light there is nothing to distinguish the dark from anything else). Repubs offer “up without down” all the time—think of the Iraq war paying for itself or tax cuts for the wealthiest will create jobs: all Ponzi schemes dressed up as free market capitalism. In their world chickens will never come home to roost, shit will never harm the seas, god is only light, it’s just “win, win, win” forever and ever. Real repubs play the christian game of “absolute good”—even their heaven has no “coincidence of opposites” and therefore not a goddamn thing could possibly ever happen, for there are no causes, only effects. Causes are democratic, effects are spoils for the beloved of the demiurge.

Real dems are hamstrung by the childish desire of so many of us (Americans) to “just win, baby” or “you too can be a millionaire.” Much of what passes for evangelical television ends up as someone warning us of doom while at the same time offering the hope of easy living and marvelous prizes. The repubs are a variant of this same carnival act. Real repubs have the advantage of monetary hedonism as their rallying cry: evil though it may be it buys a lot of votes.

FrenchDoc

Where did I list [some] dems?

By the title of my post, I was very clearly responding to myiq2xu. myiq asked “Gee Dmd: Where did Frenchdoc say…’only?’” regarding your list of qualities. I understood your list perfectly: they are characteristics you claim all “real dems” have. I was poking fun at myiq for claiming that it only applied to [some]. It would behoove you to read and then reread my comments before replying. Otherwise, you end up responding to claims I never made.

Oh, and the silly, self-pitying list of names other people may have called you elsewhere? It does nothing for your argument. As a matter of fact, it makes it weaker: it makes it seem that you are appealing to people’s sense of pity because you understand your argument to be too weak to stand on its own. I know, I know, Lambert uses this pathetic device all the time, but you don’t need to follow his every lead.

Aeryl

Obama flicked his shoulders, an allusion to a Jay-Z song

Have you seen the video? Jay-Z brushes his shoulder off, Obama flicks it.

You know what you flick off your shoulder? Bird shit. This attempt to link the two is a pathetic attempt by the OFB to contextualize his denigrating remarks, by claiming it was a popular culture reference.

Your Dear Leader did just that in this post. The title of the post, “Ladies is pimps too, go and brush your shoulders off”, is a line from the Jay-Z track “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”. I think one also flicks lint, hair clippings, dandruff, all sorts of things off one’s shoulder. By all means, though, keep thinking Obama was comparing HRC to bird shit.

And what do you

scrape of your shoe?

We could argue all day. I have cats and lint, and I brush, because as Jay-Z’s song point out, these are the travails of life, and you have to brush it off. I believe flicking is a more contemptuous act, in an an attempt to denigrate and dehumanize his opponent.

I have been asking people repeatedly to stop using that stupid idea. I don’t agree with lambert that Obama made a Jay-Z reference.

He made a snide remark about the fact “she was in her element”, implying Clinton is better at the mudslinging, though his politics have hardly been “new”. He is really making excuses for the fact that she can maintain her composure under these stupid harsh questions, which we all should have been objecting to from the start.
