Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat. - Jesse Ventura
Republicans vying for the presidency must be real wrestling fans…
In 2000, it was the disaster in Florida and a Supreme Court theft of the White House in Bush v. Gore.
In 2004, it was questionable balloting via Diebold voting machines in Ohio.
Now, in 2007, preemption is the rule: steal the 2008 presidential election by another Republican electoral stunt. There is a proposed initiative in California to divide presidential delegates’ votes in the Electoral College.
Courtesy of a Republican attorney in California, Thomas W. Hiltachk, a new ballot initiative is being offered in California - 07-0032, “The Presidential Election Reform Act.”
What would this “act” do? Abandon the “winner-take-all” process of awarding electoral votes from California. The result:
“Democrats would lose 20 electoral votes and very likely the presidency if California abandons the winner-take-all system while large Republican states like Florida and Texas do not.”
And who is this Thomas Hiltachk? – He submitted this current initiative under the letterhead of “Californians For Equal Representation.” How nice. Reminds me of other great titles of entities he’s formed in the past such as “The California Recovery Team” formed in 2004 to get Arnold Shwarzenegger reelected when it seemed impossible or “Rescue California” formed to recall Democratic governor Gray Davis.
So this attorney that currently represents the California Republican Party seeks “equal representation.” Nothing to fear there – other than another illegitimate Republican presidency.

Never forget Gray Davis lost because of market manipulation
Perpetrated by Republican contributors Enron, who caused the California utility crisis.
These guys are as dirty as they come. What a surprise.
We. Are. Going. To. Die. We must restore hope in the world. We must bring forth a new way of living that can sustain the world. Or else it is not just us who will die but everyone. What have we got to lose? Go forth and Fight!—Xan
i stopped following CA politics when they elected der
gropenfurer. i was so disgusted with CA, as i had family out there and they told me that a lot of voters voted for him because he is a movie star, and for no other reason. i understand that davis got fucked over by enron, but he didn’t help himself by failing to work that angle and represent progressive interests better.
but even so, obviously it’s important to pay attention to this story. sigh, someday we really will get rid of the electoral college. perhaps this will even be the thing to do it. just imagine, a republican who doesn’t have a majority of the votes, by a clear and perceptable margin, and who still gets installed in office by the EC, because of this crap. it is worth noting that big rethug states aren’t doing this.
now that i think about it- where are the dem party lawyers and why aren’t they introducing similar bills in TX and FL or AL or where else the rethugs get to keep the whole prize? i’m reminded of (another republican actor) sean connery in “the untouchables,” the ’if your enemy puts one of yours in the hospital, you put one of his in the morgue.’
our dems send their enemies flowers and offer to pick up the hospital bill. and force us to pay for both.
Rather Than The Abolition Of The Electoral College
Perhaps consider the 30K Plan.
My simple mind finds it a solution, but I’d like other peoples’ opinions on it.
The Bill of Rights is a born rebel. It reeks with sedition. In every clause it shakes its fist in the face of constituted authority… . it is the one guaranty of human freedom to the American people. - Frank Cobb
Well ... sorta ...
Now if you had one elector for every 30 K persons … you might have something.
The “blue” states would handily outclass the “red” states, for example.
