Reining in Israel, maybe

I mean, who knows? They're all as twisty as corkscrews. Guardian:

The United States is stepping up efforts to dissuade Israel from attacking Iran's nuclear facilities, with a strong public warning by the US military's most senior figure and the dispatch of two high-ranking officials to Jerusalem.

General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, said in a television interview that it was "not prudent at this point"[Not close enough to the elecion? False flag operations not in place?] to attack Iran, and "a strike at this time would be destabilising".

But in a comment likely to fuel speculation about Israel's military plans, he added: "I wouldn't suggest we've persuaded them that our view is the correct view." The two countries were having a "candid, collaborative conversation" which was continuing, he said.

On the other hand, "candid" is code for "My hair is on fire about this."

As indeed it ought to be. I mean, letting Israel off the leash (assuming that Israel is the leashee, and not the leasher) just so a bunch of Christianist loons can wank about The Rapture... Not the best plan, perhaps?

I think they are serious

I don't have a computer so links are tough, but on the radio they said the US and Britain are both officially saying they disagree with Israel's assessment of the status of Iran's nuke program and think military action would accelerate it, not slow it.

In a world of bad news, this is arguably good. I would check Turcopelier first though

Sorry, I don't fall in love with politicians. I'm not that desperate.....

If you assume any level of competence in the US military brass,

attacking Iran makes no sense right now. The Army is drained from its long stay in Iraq, and we're still committed to Afghanistan. I've no doubt there are plenty of people who want to attack Iran for a variety of reasons, but quite apart from the moral wrongness of it, it's something the US military cannot currently afford.

Not to mention confronting Iran always brings the distant specter of Russian involvement.

Russia and China

neither one of them would support action against Iran.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
