Republican idea of bipartisanship: Destroy Social Security

Somebody should tell Little Debbie Howell about the layout problem today; WaPo put this on the Op-Ed page instead of with the comics. Jeff Sessions:

A Bipartisan Fix for Retirees
In the aftermath of their November election victory, Democratic leaders have pledged to work on a bipartisan basis to solve the problems facing our nation. In that spirit, I suggest that Democrats and Republicans can successfully work together to create personal savings accounts for all Americans outside the Social Security system, an idea that politicians from both political parties have supported for years and that The Post's editorial page recently endorsed ["Up From the Depths," editorial, Nov. 27].

Are these guys demented?

The Republicans couldn't manage to loot Social Security when they controlled all three branches of government, and now, when they control only two, they're going to go ahead with their agenda as if nothing happened? As Atrios says, stop it. (And Jeebus, I'll take Atrio over Fred Hiatt any day.)

If this happens, you're going to see a lot of grey-haired people strapping on suicide belts and heading for the Capitol. And it won't be the Republican offices they'll be heading for; it'll be the Democrats'.

So, let's hope the Democrats have enough sense to respond this kindly offer of Bipartisanship with a firm Pas si bête.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
