Republican US attorney, having kept job, brings new "terror" indictment

But you can tell her heart's not in it--After all, she broke the story on a Saturday afternoon:

Three people were arrested and another was being sought Saturday for allegedly plotting to blow up a fuel line that feeds John F. Kennedy International Airport and runs through residential neighborhoods, authorities said.

The plot never got past the planning stages. It posed no threat to air safety or the public, the FBI said Saturday.

At a news conference, U.S. Attorney Roslynn R. Mauskopf called it "one of the most chilling plots imaginable."

What's chilling is that this one will peter out, just like all the other ones. Remember the guys in New York who were going to take down the Brooklyn bridge with blowtorches? The guys down in Miami who tried to order terrorist uniforms?

As Next Hurrah points out, Roslynn R. Mauskopf never made it onto the firing list, but her name came up in discussion.

So, now we know how she keeps her job! Because as Krugman says, the big issue isn't what the 9 who got fired did, but what those who stayed on are doing (or not doing).

Has anyone run any cross-tabulations on fake "voter fraud" indictments and ginned up waronterra indictments? Maybe somebody should....

UDPATE Maybe this explains the Saturday release?

This story is such total

This story is such total shit. And the local news coverage is too. Every local TV news station lead with it and was at Kennedy Airport asking travelers how concerned they were about what might have happened if this attack had actually been carried out. Most of the questions were framed as if something had actually happened. Still, one woman said she was not concerned because these guys were caught before anything happened. Another man just smiled and said he was not concerned at all.

It is still unbelievable after seeing this kind of coverage for years that the news media continue to try to make a story where none exits. Asking what people's reaction would be to a hypothetical that apparently never had much chance of happening is incredible.

Truly, madly, deeply bogus

TPM.

The best is this one:

Defreitas, who sells books on street corners and exports broken air-conditioners to Guyana, was arraigned in a Brooklyn court and denied bail.

From, ya know, an actual reporter, a species almost extinct in this country but still alive in Australia.

Jeebus, broken air conditioners. It's like something out of the later William Gibson, or Snow Crash.

No authoritarians were tortured in the writing of this post.

ABC Dinner News Coverage

They dredged up all the past plots uncovered including the Miami Stooges without so much as a map of Chicago in their story background. The press conference was heavy on spin and emotion yet light on facts. The fantasy of pipelines blowing up Brooklyn is utterly dubious according to all the pipeline security experts subsequently interviewed yet is provided the basis for our US Attorney to claim unspeakable horror in the making.

Not a mention of any of all uncovered terrah plots to date being nothing more than a PR show for DHS and the intrepid attorneys of the DOJ who survived the Gonzo years. Still no convictions.

The graft is only surpassed by the will to retain power.

How do you tell a population of zombie sheep that they are being raped when they seem to encourage it?
