Revolt Against the Orange Overlord in MI Primary

So I got this email from a friend:

DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas asked us to forward this message to everyone
we know in Michigan. If you’d like to comment on this plan, visit:
Dear Michigan Friend,

We’re not going to beat around the Bush. If you want to help make mischief for
the Republican Party - and bolster the Democrats’ chances for taking the White
House this November - read on!

Are you a Democrat or independent registered to vote in Michigan? If you are,
vote for Mitt Romney in the Republican primary on Tuesday, January 15th!

Do you know any Democrats or independents in Michigan? If yo u do, encourage them
to vote for Mitt Romney in the Republican primary on Tuesday, January 15th!

To which I sent this reply:

while i am only a minor c-list blogger and not the mighty orange overlord, i disagree with this analysis. i am going to cast a vote for ron paul, in hopes that he’ll stick it out to the convention and be in a position to have an impact on a brokered situation there.

there is *much* not to like about paul. but: he’s anti war, and the Establishment republicans and bushies hate him. he also is the representative (no matter how misplaced) of our allies on ’the other side,’ that is the Little People who are finally waking up to how republicans have screwed them but only know what they’re told by their republican overlords in the media. if they had the facts we do, they’d be voting with us. it’s of note that DK and ron paul supporters around the nation consider themselves much alike. paul is a step in the right direction for people who know that republicanism is wrong, but can’t quite say why, and that movement should be encouraged.

so, no, kos- i’m going with paul.

Seems like all I ever do is vote for Republicans in this state (the Dem primary here has been labeled taboo by the national party and write-ins for Edwards or Obama will not be counted). I voted for McStain in 2000, foolishly believing he was different than Bush at that time, but I’m still sorry we’re stuck with Chimpy instead. Primary crossing over is an accepted part of the blood sport that is politics, and I hate not voting at all.

I’ve said many times here: Ron Paul supporters will become our natural allies, over time, and are the most likely Republicans to convert. Not “independents” but actual members of the Republican party who are highly dissatisfied with their Leadrz. I’ve tried long and hard to bring these people into the light, and on Tue I’m going to show them how far I’m willing to go to achieve our shared goal of ending the war/occupation. I hope they’re willing to do the same in the fall.

naw

i say, vote for chauncey billups!

A basketball player?

A basketball player? Should have relevant experience, like an actor or wrestler.

you're going to vote for a man who's anti-abortion

and featured racists in his newsletter?

’kay.

You also pledging for AKA, next week?

anon: here are my "choices" on tue

1. don’t vote.
2. write in my candidate of choice, only to know that it will not be counted
3. choose a dem candidate i don’t support
4. cross over and make trouble in the republican primary
a. by voting for a candidate who could still win the republican nom
b. by voting for a candidate who won’t get the nom no matter what i do, but who could have the ability to “broker” a convention in which no candidate has a clear majority

4b isn’t exactly “likely,” but it’s possible. all the republicans are “antichoice” in the sense that even if they don’t make it a top priority, they will work with other republicans for antichoice purposes. that’s part of what makes them ’republicans.’

situations like this are why i call myself a ’progressive’ and not a democrat. at both the state and national level, the party failed me, and put egos and insider infighting ahead of my rights as a voter. i’m pissed about that, as i think i have every right to be.

as noted, our Overlord Kos himself is suggesting we cross over and vote for a Republican. all i’m saying is that i disagree with his choice, not the logic of why a progressive should do so.

know that i would never vote for a republican antichoice candidate if i thought there were even 0.000001% chance of him/her winning. i’m 1000% sure the media will never allow paul to be president, anymore than they will a populist democrat who speaks of reigning in large corporations.

however, anon- you get huge creds for the AKA line

hahahahahaha. it’s the thread that never dies!

pick a name, you’re clever and should be known around here. thanks for the laugh.

Yes, CD and I are pledging together

I’ve already got my dress picked out!

Yes, AC, indeed. Pick a handle and dive in.

It seems to me that

It seems to me that ultimately, Ron Paul wants what most right wingers want, an end to government. He is more honest about it and he says he would phase it out rather than just kill it through normal incompetence and cronyism.

But doesn’t it come to the same thing in the end?

+1, Hobson

Now, if Paul would get his thinking straight on corporations as persons, that would straighten out a lot else of his thinking. Alas, that is, dare I say it, the libertarian in the woodpile. The ideology in practice moves us to from corporate dominance to 100% corporate everything.
