RNC to Congress on missing e-mail: Fuck you

Missed this one. It's the usual thing: the Administration did something awful, just as predicted. It gets tiring to write about, after awhile, which I'm sure gets they count on. WaPo:

After promising last year to search its computers for tens of thousands of e-mails sent by White House officials, the Republican National Committee has informed a House committee that it no longer plans to retrieve the communications by restoring computer backup tapes, the panel's chairman said yesterday.

The move increases the likelihood that an untold number of RNC e-mails dealing with official White House business during the first term of the Bush administration -- including many sent or received by former presidential adviser Karl Rove -- will never be recovered, said House Democrats and public records advocates.

The RNC had previously told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that it was attempting to restore e-mails from 2001 to 2003, when the RNC had a policy of purging all e-mails, including those to and from White House officials, after 30 days. But Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D-Calif.) disclosed during a hearing yesterday that the RNC has now said it "has no intention of trying to restore the missing White House e-mails."

It's really asymmetrical information warfare, isn't it?

The administration, through the NSA, can read all of my email.

But I, as a citizen, can't read any of theirs.

Whatever's going on here has nothing to do with either democracy or Constitutional government. I can't figure out which F-word it is: Fascism, or Feudalism, or a malign combination of both.

More and better “F” words are needed

If Fascism and Feudalism aren't quite right, and they aren't, perhaps this is something new, an original kind of totalitarianism with aspects of this or that earlier form, part Fascist, part Feudal, part Theocrat and Plutocrat and Autocrat but all smooshed together and reassembled like Frankenstein’s monster, animated and let loose upon an unsuspecting citizenry only this time Mr. Monster really is malicious and destructive.

Fuckerism, however tempting, will not catch on with the primetime crowd, nor will Fuckocrat; more's the pity.

Fundyocracy has potential, a play on the hijacking of the tenets of the delusionally religious and the demand these people have for blind, unreasoning devotion regardless of how self-destructive it is for their followers. Fundycrats are right because they cannot be wrong; they admit to no mistakes because they make no mistakes; they can do what they want because they have the power to do whatever they want, and since whatever they want to do is the right thing to do there is no reason why they should do otherwise.

They are in power and you are not because they are right and you are not, because they are deserving of power and you are not, because they are the chosen ones and you are not, because fundamentally that is the way it is; your lack of understanding and persistence at questioning this principle only displays your unworthiness and justifies the necessity of grinding you into obedience or oblivion.

Fundycrats don't respond to questioning, or demands for documents, or subpoenas to testify, or recognize the existence of secular law, because they don’t have to – and you can’t make them. They have their own law, from a Higher Power; a fundamental law that is the real law because it is fundamental and cannot be challenged or questioned or altered, unless they themselves choose to alter it based on a new revelation of what is fundamental.

John Edwards is quite correct in saying that these people cannot be reasoned with, that they must instead be confronted and defeated. Reasonable people have long since gotten over the divine-right approach to governance, what with so many divine rulers getting their heads chopped off, but the principle for these new dictators is the exact same circular, self-serving reasoning; we are in power because we deserve to be, by virtue of our own fundamental exceptional excellence.

One supposes that there is still time, still sufficient structural integrity in our system of governance, to evict the usurpers and regain some semblance of equalitarianism by peaceful means but the longer the Fundycrats are in power the less likely that will be. Apparently the thinking is that when you your exceptional self are making history there is no reason to waste time reading the history of others.

In similar “F” news, AG Mukasey forwarded a big Fuck Off from King President George to Speaker Nancy in response to her request for a criminal indictment of Harriet Meyers and Joshua Bolton, so now it will be off to the courts to determine if the United States Congress has legal authority to compel individuals to appear before it. Someone here should write something about this.
