Matt and his crew are rapidly becoming my newest heroes. Please read his excellent work on the not-quite-legal activities of some of your favorite political players as the citizens of NV struggle to bring some common sense to our drug regulation laws. I am not qualified to speak at length on what seems to be happening there, but it seems pretty basic to me: public officials should not have the right to condemn initiatives put forth by the general public while on the clock and while using resources bought with your taxdollars. Yet that is exactly what’s going on here, and like Matt, I wonder why the Democrats aren’t following up on very similar and possibly related lawbreaking on Rove’s part. Harry? Nancy? Anyone?
I’m very frustrated right now, because I’m not sure how citizens can bring back the notion of “The Rule of Law” when the leadership of both parties seem so disinterested in it. The more I think on it, the more it’s a no brainer. Everyone has the right to avocate for their positions and be a part of the political process. But government officials are supposed to be working for everyone, and when they are in uniform/on the clock, they should remain politically neutral and enforce and uphold the law equally. Is that really such a crazy idea?
Clearly, it has become so. The more times I reread Matt’s post and links, the more it becomes clear to me that a criminal gang of hypocrites and thugs, with incestuous financial relationships that transcend party, are running governments high and low. This is the model of governance that Bush has made the standard over the last seven years. And the Democrats don’t seem to have any problem with that.
