Scandalysis Paralysis

Once in a while, it's good to sit back and marvel at the earth's bounty, "the bugs in the grass and the birds all swimmin'."

You get the same effect if you take a quiet moment to consider how many GOP scandalitos are going on at any one time. Can't you feel that cooling breeze as they whip by and are eagerly forgotten by the media and the see-no-evil public? Ah, renews the ol' verve and ardor, eh?

Now, unless you care about the Constitution, the Geneva Conventions, or having any rights whatsover if you get branded as an "enemy combatant," last week's doings will be happily forgotten — until John McCain dazzles '08 swing voters with tales of his brave stand in favor of all forms of torture short of rape and murder.

But the hits just keep on coming.

Here I am writing about the sins of the GOP, and I never got to Hastert's negligence in Foleygate, Bill Frist waving the white flag in Afghanistan, and Bush whoring around the country for GOP candidates, unconcerned that escalating violence in Iraq has already claimed 16 US troops in this young month.

Even better than forgetting the news is rewriting it, as with Fox News labeling Foley as a Democrat.

What the MSM isn't telling you is that Congress secretly passed a law that says all gay people are Democrats, which is why Foley had to resign. I'm wondering what Andrew Sullivan will make of this new legislation....

Well, I do hope that the Democrats learn a lesson from all this. One scandal is bad, but infinite scandals just blur into white noise. Sweet, soothing white noise.
