Sean Wilentz on W

tom's picture

What does one of the higher profile historians in America, Sean Wilentz, think of George W. Bush? What do historians in general think of him?

Go here.

If you recall, I talked about this a little while back.

He notes that, like in my rankings, W is in most historians' pantheons of bad presidents. He also notes that, like me, most historians have to go back into the nineteenth century to find other presidents as bad as W. I put him in my "bottom five" if you recall.

All of this tells you that, in the minds of historians, historians view him to be a really, really, really bad president. Most of us agree that, if he isn't the worst, he's one of the very worst.

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
