Shock Me Dave Petraeus

"Shock Me Dave Petraeus," performed by The Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy.

(to the tune of the Falco song "Rock Me Amadeus")

Ooh, shock me Dave Petraeus
Shock me Dave Petraeus
Shock me, shock me Dave Petraeus

Give me that shock and awe

You’re coming to DC to testify,
I know you're s'posed to preach the party line
And satisfy their urge to hear a pro-surge dirge
But stop the "we are winning" spinning, let the truth emerge.
Oh, don't you cleanse your story, please spare the detergent
It's a sectarian mess with all kinds of insurgents
Fallujah me once, but don't Fallujah me twice,
Can you try candor,
Will you shock me, Dave Petraeus?

Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus...
Oh, oh, oh, oh Dave Petraeus.

Oh, oh, I-raq me Dave Petraeus!

Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus...
Oh, oh, oh, oh Dave Petraeus.

Please be a superstar
And tell us how things are
Outside of one walled spot in east-northwest Anbar
While Baghdad burns, no corners turn
And no one has any power
Except militias who have wishes that aren't chocolates and flowers
The key is truth now, Dave,
I beg you don't mistune it
Can we please say "no more Friedman Units"?
George's whore, or end this war?
Who are you fighting for?
I wish there was a chance
That you would shock me, Dave Petraeus.

Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus...
Oh, oh, oh, oh Dave Petraeus.

Oh, oh, I-raq me Dave Petraeus!

Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus... Dave Petraeus,
Dave Petraeus, Dave Petraeus...
Oh, oh, oh, oh Dave Petraeus.

Thanks Skippydelic!

On Tuesday's "The Daily Show," they did the same gag, playing a brief snippet of "Iraq Me Dave Petraeus."

Can't really complain, because others used it in text well before my little gang did the song.

As for my apology, as MoveOn.org has learned, it's clearly wrong to rhyme anymore in a time of war. Oh, damn!

Excellent!

vastleft,
Excellent tune, and *great* lyrics!!!

P.S. You didn't *really* need to apologize over on Greenwald's page.

Nicely done, vastleft

Pro, dude. Pro.

Side note: Dave Petraeus is not gay. I repeat: he's. not. gay. You can tell by his haircut. ++++

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
