Today's Boston Globe carried a piece of corporate propaganda entitled Lobbies backing health reforms: Insurers change their tune from 1993-94 debate. Rather than deconstruct it line by line, I will just say what is conspicuous by its absence: any mention of single payer.
There are no quotes from Senator Kennedy or anyone who works for him. Try to believe it. Try to believe that a Massachusetts newspaper wrote about the health care debate and did not even call Kennedy's office for a quote. Neither did they contact any of the sponsors of HR 676, including Barney Frank, who is the chair of the House Finance Committee. That is correct, a Massachusetts newspaper wrote about health care, quoted some senator from Montana, but NOT Ted Kennedy or Barney Frank. Try to believe it.
Because of the general unhappiness with Romney care, Massachusetts has one of the most active single payer movements in the country. There is a measure on the ballot to amend the state constitution to include single payer health care. Seven of the 93 cosponsors of HR 676 are from Massachusetts.
Grassroots groups for single payer include Mass-Care, the Massachusetts Nurses Assocation, and very likely others.
This is not a question of a newspaper dishonestly withholding information so that their readers won't know what is going on, as despicable as such behavior is, that is not what we are dealing with. This embarrassment of an article is truly in the which do you believe, me or your lying eyes territory. The gap between the Globe and their remaining readers is that egregious.

i hope it goes under soon. sorry for you staunch libruls in MA. i bet y'all mostly read the "indy" papers for actually informative news now, like we do out here. major papers here are owned by, ick, gannett corp. and thus, useless.
DCB, Have You Seen This?
Via Echidne, Daschle soliciting suggestions for healthcare. It would be kind of awesome if he got overrun with single payer advocates. I'm just sayin'.
I'd do a post, but RL calls...
