How about all the shit?

Because there's plenty of it. Obama on why the second tranche of the bailout is going to be better. No, really:

“It is clear that the financial system, although improved from where it was in September [before the next orgy of looting, anyhow], is still fragile [especially the personal fnancial systems of people losing their jobs, and their houses, and choosing between health care and food] and I felt that it would be irresponsible for me with the first $350 billion already spent, ....

Didn't they teach the man about the psychology of sunk costs?

.... to enter into the administration without any potential ammunition should there be some sort of emergency or weakening of the financial system,” Mr. Obama said.

What on earth could "any [why any?] potential ammunition" mean? More lack of accountability? Now let's play whack-a-weasel:

“I think many of us have been disappointed with the absence of clarity, the lack of transparency, the failure to track how the money’s been spent and the failure to take bold action with respect to areas like housing, consumer credit, so that we can maintain credit,” he said, adding: “So my commitment is that we are going to fundamentally change some of the practices in using this next phase of the program.”

Again, if transparency and tracking are such good ideas, why didn't Obama get them into the original bailout bill? I can't think of a single solitary soul who had more leverage he did at the time. and all we got was NOW NOW NOW.

It's the banality of nonsense

Truly I'm flummoxed by Obama's complete lack of outrage here.

He can't even muster up "I am disappointed!" let alone "I am outraged" or clutch your pearls villagers: "I am angered" by the absense of..

And, Obie desperately needs a course in short answer science. The tumble of words that are tied up in lawerly briefs is, frankly, boring and just meaningless and unnecessary.

People are losing their homes! A little frank, populist disgust with the status quo (as in "This is, as my ol' perfesser would say, 'bullshit' dressed up like a hero sandwich". I think the masses would probably applaud. But he's oh so gentlemanly. I assume he will identify "some" as being disappointed by torture policies, etc.

PS: is this the same interview where he said his inaugural address needed to "define the moment we live in"?? Puh-leeze. (saw that on Colbert this eve.)

"Fundamentally" change "some" of the practices

That about sums it up, don't it? Which practices will he "fundamentally" change do you suppose? Whether the money is distributed electronically, or via check?

Maybe when he gets really worked up he will "radically" change "a couple of aspects" as well?

Good reading! Favorite quote: What could go wrong?
Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
