We asked for it and we eventually got it
There is an endless source of meanness and hate on the Democratic side, why are we shocked when the well experienced righty side behaves this way too?
KoshemBos
Who asked for it?
?
The Pot Calling The Kettle White
Didn't say we asked for it, but the Democratic campaign is the meanest I have seen. It's devoid of real debate and is based on personal insults, hate and innuendo. I hope I can safely make the assertion that without the visceral hate of the Clintons, Obama would not have been where he is today. I claim that many in the A-List go for Obama because, at leat unconsciously, they hate the Clintons. Adriana Huffington hated Bill even 10 years ago. We used to be better than that. Why are we shocked to see the right wing resort to its old hate (which always was there)?

I'm sorry, what?
"... the Democratic campaign is the meanest I've seen.... We used to be better than that. Why are we shocked to see the right wing resort to its old hate (which always was there)?"
One question: When the fuck did they ever stop hating?
And you're making a serious mistake by assuming the ratfuckers who are attempting to pit Aravosis and Digby's crews against each other have anything to do with progressives or Democrats. Defending against an attack is not hating; it is self-preservation.
Let's go to first principles. You mean we caused the right wing think tanks, the right wing radio provocateurs, the right wing pundits and shills to have a reason for the visceral hate of the Clintons? Their politicians had their scandals (Newt trading up in wives without those pesky divorce papers?), but we were kittens in response, compared to the slander they were willing to unleash on anyone who got in their way of a permanent government.
Well, at least you got one thing right: without the visceral hate of the Clintons, Obama would not have been where he is today... because the hatemongers and Obama's Republican Guard are funded by the same plutocrats. If you approve of or excuse their hate as the rocket fuel for Obama's rise, you're giving a reacharound to Rush Limbaugh himself -- and we all know how distasteful that can be....
Actually, we're on the A-list
I mean to put up the little widget that says so ;-)

provocateurs
I think this primary is being made worse by Republican provocateurs pretending to support Obama or Clinton. But that is just me.
It is also being made worse by lefty bloggers who should know better, but don't understand the difference between a primary and a general. The people they attack today are the people they will need in the general.
sigh
Aravosis
What bugs me is that Aravosis is blaming Digby's regular readership for the negative attention that his post got.
But Aravosis wasn't even mentioned until the third update -- what is far more likely to have happened is that one of the "whackjob" pro-Hillary/anti-Obama sites linked to the Digby piece about Matthews, traffic got sent to her, and these whackjobs went after John A.
Digby's commenters are generally not that kind of people -- and she shut down her comments when things started getting ugly a little while ago, and recently re-opened them. I have the sad feeling that she's going to have to shut down the comments section again...
Which would be the goal, eh?
I do notice that our comments are a lot cleaner now that registration is required....

Let me introduce you to Hunter S. Thompson
Oh, I dunno.
Maybe that crystalized my respect for HHH.

provocateurs: real.
that's all i'll say. except that i've learned never to hold a grudge against another woman blogger, unless i have very direct and very specific proof to do so. they are out to fuck with us, this one i know from personal experience.
and lambert: don't put it up. part of the definition of "A-List," is that you never have to say so publically. everyone just knows, and more importantly, the right people know. you've crossed that threshold some time ago, no need for vulgar self-promotion or advertising. that's for the new money plebs and professional bugkillers who think they're royalty because they ratfuck better than the rest of their party's guttersnipes.
CD, I think the smiley means that Lb knows that "A-list" widget
Is kind of cheesy and not a real proof of A-list status.
oh, i'm just giving him a hard time, VL
i could've done the "a list barbie" comment, but i thought i'd be pedantic instead.
Lambert is such a Heather! n/t

Anybody who thinks this is a mean campaign...
Didn't experience Humphrey-Muskie, or Hart-Mondale, or Carter-Kennedy.
They're all mean. I don't even know if the pearl-clutching about mean-ness is knew. It's a pretty shop-worn trope, so it probably isn't....

check out some of these threads on a so-called "progressive Dem Site"
Honestly..when you can't tell the difference between DU and freerepublic, the state of politics has reached a sorry state.
Is this what Obama meant when he said he would bring Republicans into the process?

Keep in mind..that on the site in question..Posters who speak against Obama are deleted in short order.
This kind of crap is typical of the hostility coming from some Obama supporters..it is sad..
I know they want to win..but winning this way is just too pathetic for words.

Simple answers to simple questions
Is this what Obama meant when he said he would bring Republicans into the process?
Yes. Hillary hatred has been a dominant political phenomenon for at least a decade. These guys are cold professionals. They can't possibly be unaware, so they know what they are doing.

But is Obama actually responsible for bringing Republicans in?
Or is it that, as I have long argued, that the Republican Party has gone so far off the deep end that moderate conservatives are seeking refuge in the Democratic Party, and the Democratic leadership, long wishing to suppress its progressive wing, is more than happy to welcome them?

Dr. S. -- I think you're on to something with this.
The GOP has fractionalized along nontraditional lines: religion, income, immigration -- more during the last 18 months than they had done previously in my lifetime (yes I remember all those "The GOP is Dead" magazine covers after the Carter and Clinton election victories. I think they were rabble-rousing on the part of all those Main$tream Media editors).
Many "moderate conservatives" -- people who think e.g. Joe Lieberman's ideas are okay -- who would've voted GOP in 2004 won't in 2008 because they see that if the GOP wins again, not only won't they have to mow their own lawns, wash their own cars, and clean their own company lavs, they'll still have to pay higher taxes while doing so.
