So.

NPR just called California for Hillary (and it's great that we were waiting for California, instead of everything being decided before they got a chance to vote).

So, just supposing that, regardless of the delegate count...

... and given that most of the Village, including Conservatives, has lined up behind Obama, does that make Hillary the insurgent candidate?

[dodges multiple zuchinnis]

Just asking....

NOTE It's interesting watching Big Orange try to spin. I guess we're joining the kewl kidz, for good or ill.

NOTE And maybe now we can straighten out this mandates thing (for which new framing is definitely needed. Jeez, nobody thinks about Social Security as a mandate).

UPDATE Some detail on the ground from Kevin:

I was surprised how down his supporters are on Hillary. They seem to dislike her as much as Republicans.

Surprised? Doesn't he read the blogs?

UPDATE And how encouraging: No attempts to delegitimize Hillary's (narrow) victory. Refreshing, after NH and NV.

UPDATE Heh. Not that I was channeling Mark Penn when I wrote this last night. Of course Obama is the insurgent! Why, Sullivan, Kristol, Brooks, and Broder are all for him!

You know, lambert, in the long run I think I can

vote for any Dem in the general ... but much as I have reservations about her coattail potential and much as she leaves me feeling we could do better, Hillary as an underdog is a new take.

Is it a winner?

Quien sabe?

I'm still voting JRE in the TX primary. After that ... I'll figure something out.

Media Love of Obama: Possible Symptom

CNN just trotted out Paul Begala to expound on how Obama's winning 13/14 states offsets Clinton's win in California, plus he's got the fundraising advantage from now on.

They also had Ed Schultz saying that Huckabee's the candidate the Dems should fear most. Jesus, what a tool.

Remarkably, NPR is treating Huckabee as if he weren't a loon

Or not remarkably.

God, they are just sucking up to him. Our famously free press at work.

Huckabee is very, very dangerous. I don't think he can possibly win, but at some point I just know he's going to inject something awful...

huckanut

Huckster is like Bush, but worse... a bible-quoting version addicted to power and corruption, oh yeah, he's nuts and obsessed with killing and death.

Media bias?

ABC talked about how he had proven his credentials of winning over solidly red states without ever mentioning that Clinton had decidedly won red states of her own (e.g., TN, OK). The fact that they refuse to mention the latter while talking up Obama made it seem as if he was the only one who could do well in red states.

I can't help but think if Obama isn't clobbering Clinton by now with the all-out advantages he has from the Establishment (corporate media, Democratic machines) and his major fund raising apparatus, what chance does he have as the nominee against McCain when that media narrative won't be there to lie and cover for him, while smearing his opponent? Honestly, his campaign is a house of cards. Perhaps that's why his supporters are so damn hyper-sensitive.

Oh, and if you're a Clinton supporter (by default, like I am) donate $$; they need it. She'll need all the help she can get to hang on in February: Obama's dominating her in $$, media, momentum, Democratic machines (e.g., Kennedy, Daschle) and primary demos. I still pick Obama to be the nominee but I want to see her battle it out and have a chance.

Quick change

Actually, I don't think Obama's "dominating" her in terms of Democratic machines backing him, including Daly's, but he's certainly matched well against her.

Oh, and was there any news casts anyone saw in which they seemed not pissed about Clinton winning CA?

misogyny now, racism later

they can't seem too much about either at the same time, but just one? sure, that works fine. this is the personal part of the race: they were instructed to ignore edwards but they hate hillary without goad. so tanking her now is getting back at all the perceived slights she ever gave them (likely next to none). later, when it's time to elevate mcstain, we'll get the 'scary nigger' stories i think they're currentely holding in reserve.

i'm speaking of the media.

Beyond war, inflation, the end of the technology/productivity wave, and financial collapse, we think the most potent and short-term threat would be societies demanding a more ‘equitable’ share of wealth.
