More seriously, the Russian Federation Army today launched an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile.
The Topol RS-12M ballistic missile, designed to defeat anti-ballistic missile systems, has hit a designated target at a testing range on the Kamchatka Peninsula, said Alexander Vovk, head of the Russian Strategic Missile Troops press service.
This is the really, really serious signal. The Russian Federation can go nuclear if needed. They do not threaten this because they feel strong. They do threaten this because they feel weak.
Don't worry. Everything's going to be fine.
SInce the real war is in Afghanistan, why worry about Georgia?
NOTE Subject line from Bismark, predicting a European war would ultimately start over "Some damn fool thing in the Balkans," as World War I did.
Hat tip, jawbone.

W's dad
presided over the end of the Cold War, so naturally W has to start it up again - or maybe take it a step farther and bring on the rapture besides.
I think I still remember how to duck and cover.
i'm betting on the taking it a step further
w's dad stopped short of baghdad that first time....
I'm betting on that, too.
But, if we're going to go further, does that mean we'll be rolling into Moscow before November?
I seem to remember
some problems in the last two centuries with trying to roll into Moscow around November. Which probably means that's the Cheney-Bush strategy. The Russian people will greet us with Popsicles or something like that.
Feith is probably working out the details with Bill Kristol and Richard Perle right now (and Condi is a Russian expert, too!)
The good news is...
... come January we'll have either:
1. A batshit insane authoritarian Rambo daddy who sounds like he's moonlighting for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce
2. A crew that will make the "best and brightest" gang that gave us Vietnam look like the soul of humility and common sense, and they'll be desperate to earn their macho cred
feh, i was going to post on this lb
and just got busy with other stuff. vast, i love your comment. sums it up perfectly. except for one thing: there's really not the money for a Great Big War, not now that chimpy's drained the treasury and bernanke's devalued the dollar, and the chinese have had their great success convincing the rest of the world that they are the future. not to mention the lack of will in the DoD. sure, there are likely plenty of people out there all gung-ho to loose the Big One on those Russkies, but i just can't see china and old yurp letting that happen. let's all not forget that yurp goes dark if the russians shut down the supply they send. that's really their ace in the hole,, from what i can tell.
so far, although we have been sending some heavy military stuff over there in the form of 'humanitarian' aid, it seems mostly to me to be for show. and a weak show at that. i love the MoA crowd, but as far as doomsayers go, there's no doomier group.
if that's the post i remember, you'll not that Col. Pat Lang has a totally different take; i'm inclined to believe him b/c of his sharp mind and experience a bit more than (forgive me, B) some bloggers who read a lot of second hand stuff. pat's still very much plugged in.
That Russina missile designed to overcome missile defense

Raimondo does not thing Biden will be much of a brake on any warlike tendencies in an Obama administration.
that first link was from Xinhua, ne?
Remember that *China* has its steady, reliable nuclear *and* space program. One of their missiles was named the Long March, so they're in it to win it, too....
