Humongous front page, er, article at the Obama 527 Formerly Known as Talking Points Memo on a McCain gaffe about the Spanish Prime Minister (google "Zapatero" if you want the full drivel).
Meanwhile, as Barney Frank points out, we're living in a financial dictatorship, and it's all playing out in neighborhoods across America.
Bill Clinton said "It's the economy, stupid." And that word, "stupid," is in there for a very good reason: To remind "creative" [cough] "class" [cough] wannabe Broderellas like WKJM
of what's really important -- and who matters, eh?
Clue stick, Josh: Not you.

C'mon Lambert , Cut Josh some slack
Zookeeepers gotta feed the animals, and sometimes it's not fit for human consumption.
Missed Opportunity
There's so much shit being done at these financial firms that isn't being reported and covered. That would be a real public service and it would help Democrats (if that's Josh's goal). Because the reason the companies have gotten away with so much is the lack of regulation and cheerleading media.

And Josh sings "la, la, la, la, I can't hear you" while everyone
else tapdances. Not to be interpreted as standing up for Josh, I'm not sure anyone in the media (and I include the blogosphere in that group) has anything intuitive or constructive to say about the economy. I think the majority of folks are in shock.

The Spanish press (see www.elpais.es) and French press (www.lemonde.fr) are certainly perplexed by McCain's remarks about Zapatero.

he didn't know who he was--it's obvious--
i bet he still thinks it's Aznar in office in Spain--the Bush buddy.
Still Having Trouble Finding the Gaffe
Did I not read enough thoroughly into the Talking Points Memo piece? They make reference to something McCain said, but I can't find it.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
McCain on Zapatero: listen for yourself
The Zapatero question starts at about 2:58. The Radio Caracol interviewer's accent is a bit thick (Colombian?) but she gives him several chances to recover and he never does figure out who she's talking about - or take the trouble to ask.
Thanks, BIO
To me, it sounds pretty clear, now that I hear it, that he can't recall who Zapatero (Spanish prime minister) is. I can't tell whether it's because of the interviewers accent or if he simply couldn't place the name. I'm sure if he was reminded, he know who Zapatero is, though. Definitely a gaffe, but one he managed to worm his way through.
